27" 120hz monitor

Hi I know this has been asked a million times in the past but nothing recent. I know that the good people on this forum seem to know what's coming out on the horizon faster than most.

Basically I'm looking for a 27 inch 120hz Monitor which I intend to use for gaming. I'm open to any ideas and suggestions thank you.

I'd go with the VG278HE from ASUS, considering it's 144hz and 27". If you don't think you'll notice the difference between 120hz and 144hz then I'd just go with the Samsung 27" 120hz display.

A 6850 is going to struggle on a lot of the new games to get above the 120fps mark.

Now most people will say you have to get 120fps to see the difference, that statement is flat out wrong. I only see tearing in 1 game right now, and it tears at 120fps, 300fps, 450fps... every other game does not tear no matter my fps. Metro maxed out I get almost 40fps and it doesnt tear.

I have a Samsung 120hz, my buddies got the Asus. Compared them side by side they are nearly identical. Either should work fine.

Your framerate has to exceed the refresh rate to get tearing, so you aren't going to get it on any screen with only 40 fps.

You don't need a full 120fps to tell the difference, just more then 60. How much more depends on how sensitive you are to it I guess.. I'd bet most people after getting used to it would be able to tell 90 from 60 easily, as it's 50% more frames.

This is basically me future proofing my monitor until next year when I get the 8900 series video card from ATI. Besides the games I do play now, I do get above 60fps so this monitor is useful for me at the moment.

If you're looking for elegance, 1080p, and full support for ATI 3D, then the Samsung S27A750D is a great monitor. There are other options such as the monitors from Overlord, but as with everything there's pros and cons. This is an option you might consider though.

It's almost the same price as that 144hx, but Samsung does make good stuff. I really think I am going to go for that ASUS 1444hz one.

Since you plan on going ATI in the next gen you may be better with the Samsung monitor as un1b4ll suggested, for better 3D support. The Asus VG278HE seems to be more inclined for Nvidia 3D vision, and not ATI's equivalent. I'm looking on their page on the Asus site and it says not 1 thing about ATI and 3D, while in big letters it talks about Nvidia 3D vision.

I have the VG278HE and it is amazing, from what I've skimmed over the 2 monitors are really similiar though, only difference is the brand and the 3D glasses you'll need.

really have no interest in 3D. It gives me a pretty bad headache, I am basically looking for a 27" monitor with the best hz. That 144hz is ungodly.
