27" 120hz monitor - Page 2

Well since you have no interest in 3D, I have to say the VG278HE. Since you said they are around the same price, you may as well get the extra 12hz refresh. Sure you'll notice the difference right away, I did coming from a U2711!

I fully support this! You won't be disappointed.

LOL now people got me thinking about 1440 resolution. Ugh this is so confusing, especially since I have been reading everything about those Korean displays all day. Does that bump in resolution really make a difference? Is it really eye popping?

Yeah it's a pretty big bump.. one step up from 1080p is 2048x1152, so 2560x1440 is two notches up. Your looking at 2,073,600 pixels on the screen for 1080p, and 3,686,400 for 1440, over 50% more dense.

The downside is you have to render 50% more pixels... really hard on the GPU.

Well I do plan on upgrading my 6850 to a 8970 once they are released so I dont think that will be too hard on the GPU.

If your current screen is 1080p or 1200p, turn it down to 720p (around 1200x720). That will be about what 1920x1080 will look like compared to 2560x1440.

But the real question is are these korean monitors great for fast paced FPS gaming? Thats all I do on my computer.

From what I have heard the Korean 120hz panels aren't true 120 panels but I've never seen one so I wouldn't know.
I did however have a 24" 120hz and while it was a tiny bit smoother then my current LCD, locking games at 60hz still runs/plays smooth.

But gaming at 1440p/1600p is glorious and makes the 1080p/1200p panels seem like kids toys.
Just my take.

You think there would be significant ghosting with these korean displays for fps games compared to the monitor i have now which is in my sig.

Not sure about significant, with my U2711 I did notice it quite a bit in close up gunfights and battles with vehicles in BF3. Don't have that issue anymore with the Asus monitor.
