With lower and lower power GPU's coming out this kind of power is very niche. Tri SLI GTX 480's and some hefty OC's may have warranted these huge PSU's but tri SLI GTX 680 most definitely don't.

That is true but when the newer cards come out (GTX780), due to the increase in performance they will be back in the 250W-300W range, till the next gen/die shrink.

This is with my 3820, it draws even more juice now with higher clocks on both the cards and the hexacore. So yea, some of us still and will need these high powered psu.
