If you have a high end system that extra money is well worth it.

Are you sure its not just the effect of spending the extra money and wanting it to be better? By definition, a digital signal displays the same until the point of total degradation where it seizes to function completely. Think of satellite radio, it either works or doesn't at all.

certified is certified.but ,usually its the distance it can reach the main thing.usually past 6 foot price go up very fast .keep everything close .the shorter the better.plan ahead .might need to buy tool for proper lenght.remember as distance grow from source signal weaken.

Distance.
That's it.
Digital means you get a picture or none at all. It doesn't degrade the picture.

It might have been confirmation bias. Can you tell them apart in a blind test?

+1 to monoprice. Very good website, I buy all of my cables from there. Fast shipping and cheap prices. Works as advertised and never had any problems with cables purchased from them.

I have never noticed a difference with signal quality, but I have had a couple of hdmi connectors break on me. They were of the dirt cheap variety as well. I would recommend not buying the absolute cheapest cables for that reason. There are plenty of decent quality, inexpensive cables though.

I didn't spend a dime buying the cables. I worked in a Electronic store where we had all the cables to play with along with abundant amount of TVs to try them with.

But from the quality of work done to the cables is huge. If you get a $5 cable chances are they cut tons of corners on it in all kinds of material. And they tend to break easy if moved alot.

And with degradation, if interference from apposing signals starts to bleed in from speaker lines, raidos, cellphones, powercables crossing over it. All that plays a part in it too. The $5 dollar cables are not shielded from stuff. where as the mid range and up are.
