What is the reasoning behind nVidia's low-end product pricing?

Thread Starter
I was out shopping this weekend and saw some GT610s going for upwards of $50. GT 620s as high as $70, even saw a GT630 going for $80 and GT640s going for upwards of $100!

Can someone explain to me the philosophy behind this pricing? Isn't it slightly counter-productive considering how Intel has single-handedly managed to kill the low-end market and AMD offers better performance for the price?

Simply because they can. I have seen so many people in best buy looking at gpus and there choice is either a 550ti or 640 for the same price and they get whatever has the highest number and most ram. Worst part is my local best buy will escort you out and call the policeon you if trying save the customer money with some real knowledge.

I manage to save at least two people from horrible purchases yesterday. One of them wanted to buy an 800w power supply for a dell, the other a $90 RAT7 for web browsing.

Because not everyone join forums or do research before purchasing = those type of people are the real revenue drivers for companies...

I read people buy lowend nvidia card as dedicated physX processing card jam mix with their AMD radeon. That's why the price is that.. rolleyes.gif

Well I guess the do it to max the profit. I fa person only has to choices and actually wants a performance that¨'s somewhere in between the two options - then why not give them that option for that "in-between" card and max the profit from it ?
