Insight on my planned WC loop

Hey first post but ive been lurking the forum for a couple years now. Built the rig last year before bulldozer launched (and right before the benchmarks came out rolleyes.gif) but havnt really been regretting the decision. The amd 955 has been holding me over and I plan to upgrade to the fx-8350 when it launches. Going to WC the CPU and the GPU's. Figured id go with universal waterblocks since the 6950s are a little older. My case is a CM HAF 932 advanced.

Heres a list of my parts list ATM

CPU block : XSPC RayStorm - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/14191/ex-blc-972/XSPC_RayStorm_High_Performance_Acetal_CPU_Liquid_Cooling_Block_-_AMD_Sockets_AM2_AM2_AM3_FM1.html?tl=g30c323s1205

GPU Block : 2 x EK VGA Supremacy - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/16993/ex-blc-1219/EK_VGA_Supremacy_Universal_High_Performance_VGA_Cooling_Block_-_Acetal_EK-VGA_Supremacy_-_Acetal.html?tl=g30c357s922

Reservoir : RP-452X2 Dual 5.25in Reservoir - http://koolance.com/rp-452x2-dual-5-25in-reservoir-for-1-2-pmp-450-s-pumps

Pump : PMP-450 http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=59_201&products_id=21689

Rads : XSPC RX360 on top - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/8523/ex-rad-146/XSPC_RX360_Triple_120mm_Radiator_Rev_2.html?tl=g30c95s161

Tubing : PrimoChill UV white - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12808/ex-tub-842/PrimoChill_PrimoFlex_PRO_LRT_Tubing_12ID_34OD_with_18_Wall_-_10ft_Retail_Pack_-_White_PFLEXP10-34-W.html?tl=g30c99s1614

Fittings : Bitspower Compression 1/2" 3/4" - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/10037/ex-tub-606/Bitspower_Ultimate_G_14_Thread_12_ID_x_34_OD_Compression_Fitting_-_Matte_Black_BP-MBCPF-CC5.html?tl=g30c409s1609

Danger Den Fillport - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2195/ex-res-45/Danger_Den_Fillport_-_Black.html#blank

Not to sure on the fans but due to clearance between my graphics card and bottom rad ill prob go with these

Scythe Kaze-Jyuni Slim Slip Stream 120mm x 12mm Fan - 2000 RPM - http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9124/fan-570/Scythe_Kaze-Jyuni_Slim_Slip_Stream_120mm_x_12mm_Fan_-_2000_RPM_SY1212SL12H.html?tl=g36c15s972

For the top fans id like some suggestions if anyone has them.

Ive doodled a couple of loops, what do you guys think of them. Ill prob go with the first one

and here is the case at the moment

Currently ive for a 230mm on the case side cover aswell so that should give me some extra air flow into the case, although ive been thinking about doings a full window mod/buying the full window 932 haf cover. Ive used martins pump/rad flow calculator and calculated the approx. heat from my components and i think this should be enough. I will be overclocking the fx-8350 and a slight over clock on the GPU's.

Also ive looked around for some GPU cover blocks because the red board on the 6950's doest match the color scheme. has anyone ever made their own or modded the back of their board? maybe ill just have to bite the bulletand buy the covers or live with it

What are your guys thoughts on this/input build. Thanks

Hey bud, I have a very similar water loop to your loop one, but don't fight convection, it isn't huge but it will warm up inside the case. Keep the hot air rising so to speak. Basically the principal is to keep as much cool air going to radiators as possible. Having warm air in the case, the GPU side radiator will be cooling with less than optimally temperatured air. Doing the most with what you got is important as the amount of work that goes into setting up water cooling can quickly and mentally defeat you at times. Having it working as best as possible from the get go is usually a given for the amount of work going into it.

The first loop will look the cleanest. I have tried the radiator flipped both ways. Always easier with the in and out on the left of my CPU blocks so to speak, and slickest.

I would reverse the ceiling fans to exhaust and have your CPU exhaust as inlet for fresh air. It will also cool down your not water cooled VRMs, don't forget about these guys. Especially when overclocking you can hit 60c~80c depending on the quality of the heat sink.

I would basically have good radiator fan exhausting on the ceiling and everything else bringing cold air in. Combine the GPU Rad air flow in from loop 2 with loop 1, and make sure to get quite decent exhausting fans and you will have the best thermal equilibrium for the whole system in my opinion.

And welcome to OCN smile.gif
