I want to build a silent/low heat non-gaming computer... which parts should I buy?

My current computer is in my signature. It makes a ton of heat, plus has a bunch of fans. I want to build something without a video video card, with as little noise as possible. I won't be gaming, but I might be doing HD video editing in the future, so I'd need a CPU that's more powerful than my current Q6700. I don't need an SSD, but perhaps maybe one of those small SSD's that help with boot times only.

I really don't want to spend a lot, so the cheaper the better. I will also have to buy Windows 8 when that comes out, so that's like a $100 already. I really wish the total cost of the computer to be under $550.

I guess power efficient components are important so that there will be less heat in my room from the computer... this computer is a nightmare at summertime... whole room becomes a sauna. I don't know where to find power efficient components, and really don't feel like taking too much time researching parts, so I'm mere for advice. As silent as possible would be a great treat as well.

I think I'll reuse the power supply I got for my sister... its really quiet, i think the fan is turned off most of the time. And also, I'll take out my currect computer out of raid and use one of the hard drives in this new build. So I don't need a new power supply nor a new harddrive. I'll buy a bigger HD once they get cheaper.

i'd suggest this:

AMD A8-5600K Trinity 3.6GHz
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1866 Model F3-14900CL8D-8GBXM (cl8)
BIOSTAR TA75MH2 FM2 AMD A75

total arround 300$ so maybe get a nice cpu cooler (i heard the stock one is a bit loud and hot) or a gpu to crossfire or anything else(or keep it tongue.gif)

i would look into amd's new trinity apu. you shouldn't even need the extra video card sence its non gaming.

I would recommend the samsung 30nm ram, small, low voltage, smaller manufacturing, thus less heat overall.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096

and along with everyone else, get a trinity CPU/motherboard combo of your choice.

If you feel the need for more video power, run a passively cooled 6670 and crossfire it with the onboard GPU.
Such as this:

that APU looks great! i saw benchmarks and it says its twice as fast as my Q6700! thats pretty good, and the price is awsome too!

however, does anyone know how much heat its gonna produce? it says its a 100watt cpu... that looks like its gonna make a lot of heat... is that true? i'd assume that lots of heat will need a fast spinning cpu fan... which will add to the noise.

i'm planning on buying a 92mm noctua case fan for this case:Newegg Link. and i also want a better CPU cooler, and I'd like to use a noctua fan on it too for optimal silence.

can someone recommend a cooler that will fit in that case and also with the FM2 mobo?

also, can someone recommend a PSU that will be as silent as possible but not expensive? plus something that wont make much heat? i dont need a lot of watts. I might get a PSU too if i find mine to noisy or too hot.

I will buck the trend and say get an Ivy Bridge quad core.

Lower power draw = less heat = quieter cooling. Ivy Bridge has lower TDP than Trinity.

Performance for video stuff? Ivy Bridge is faster than Trinity.

Non-gaming? Trinity loses its only advantage over Ivy Bridge because the IGP won't matter.

Seriously, for the described wish list and uses, I can't see a single reason to recommend Trinity.

Hmmm, can't edit...

I tried looking up some numbers to back what I'm saying. I'll go by this review: AMD A10-5800K & A8-5600K Review
Quote:
Idle power is very good but under heavy CPU load Trinity consumes considerably more power. You're basically looking at quad-core Ivy Bridge levels of power usage under load but performance closer to that of a dual-core Ivy Bridge.
Quote:
Trinity's CPU performance puts the buying decision squarely in the tradeoff evaluation zone. Once again what matters the most is how important Trinity's GPU is to you. AMD holds a clear advantage there if you're going to use it, otherwise the decision is heavily weighted towards Intel. Intel holds a power consumption advantage and a clear single threaded performance advantage

Bolds are mine.

I don't see how "HD video editing" would ever take advantage of the GPU, but even if it does the Intel chips support Quick Sync.

Now, if power consumption (which = heat output) didn't matter to the OP, then flip a coin. But it does.

maybe i could get an ivy bridge dual core i3 for $130 instead of the A8-5600K? which one has better performance?

Can someone recommend a QUIET PSU that's not expensive if i was to get one?
