I have a small idea of what you mean with keeping with OSX but doesn't that only work with certain parts?

Not really, I've ran their MomentusXT's while saving up for proper SSD and they work fine until now, I've heard horror stories from XT users but I haven't had them thankfully.

From my experience...for 6 years in digital content production...WD Blacks / Raptors and early Samsungs all the way.

My current setup consists of 1 Samsung SSD 128GB, 2 Samsung F1's 1TB, 1 for RAW and 1 for Render then nightly back-ups on my home-server, 2x2TB WD Black in RAID1 for my main render back-up and 1x2TB WD Black for regular back-ups all wired via GB ethernet. I used to use Quadros and FirePros when I was still employed for 3D but when I went freelance I switched to main-stream GPUs since I could not afford $2k GPUs just for rendering. :/

As you can see I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to back-ing up my finished projects to a server not to mention burning project files onto BRs just in-case something goes wrong. When a project comes up...like a wedding video or a debut or party...I easily guzzle down 25 BRs just for the raw files and all the other footage are stored on my RAW disk and deleted upon editing and rendering. So yeah...it's an expensive setup but well worth my peace of mind. Some call it over-kill...I call it insurance. :D

[EDIT] It does but just in case I followed their buying guide just to be on the safe side for everything to be compatible, you might want to base your build around their build. When I need the OS I just switch my SSD to my XT and plug-in my 2 SL data drives and viola, I can use SL to my hearts content and produce content. But I mainly use my W7.

Cram - no problem with being careful, better not to have to tell the client that you lost their wedding or whatever due to your computer dying smile.gif

Who did you work for doing 3d? Do you have an online portfolio? I just uploaded this little bit of practice/fun yesterday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZkS8lRD4-0&feature=results_video

Prefer not to say, kinda confidential as they are still sending me some minor work when the studio is overloaded. :/

But as for a portfolio it's over at http://www.evistro.ca and my old old old reel is there...haven't had the time to make a new and updated reel due to the fact that it all has been either weddings, baptismals and your usual asian debut and I haven't had any rest as I'm running 2 jobs and this freelance on the side trying to pay off my college loan.

I change my mind about what I said tongue.gif

The 3770K would be a better choice over the 3570K. Do you know if that animation software can use more than 4 cores/threads?

Andrew - not to sure, i'll have a look into it when I get home from work about the cores/threads maya and after effects use.

Cram - Nice to be busy isn't it but sometimes gets in the way of things you wanna do smile.gif

As for running mac OSX on this build do you know if it's possible?

Change your motherboard to any of these 2 models GA-Z77X-UD5H / GA-Z77X-UP5-TH and you'll have full  compatibility support, I tried installing SL on my Samsung SSD and it did work. Only concern is the DVD Drive if it'll support it or not.

I don't know about Maya from my own experience but 3D Max and AE occupies all threads pretty well. No idea how much Adobe Flash would actually suck out of the processor, only had to co-op with it in school and really wasn't interested in the fact if it could use HT to its benefit or not while using it.

16GB is needed for heavy video rendering. I easily max out 8GB when Im using After Effects and 1080p video.
i7 will help with responsiveness and render times.

Maybee but this is not the place to ask due to the forums rules on Hackintosh/x86 Project
