It also looks like it has a lot more support than just a reskin of someone elses game.

You is crazy. Most people you see that records dayz has the settings on normal or high. Wait til you see it on very high or max. It is phenominal! Like the above poster said, the city might not be as visually good, but the wilderness and everything else looks good. Now let's dumb down warz to medium or high graphics and see how it looks. Never seen it, but based on what other people are saying, it's comparable to dayz at the same level (graphics wise)

On another note, I'll wait a couple weeks to get warz. Let the bugs get sorted out and stuff.

lukeman, thank you for posting pretty much what I was about to. thumb.gif

Also as an FYI for anyone, DayZ is still technically alpha...

Yep I record DayZ @ 1080p ad my settings are a mix of medium high, but I have terrain low.

RIght now I am preffering DayZ WAY more. I'm running WarZ at the default high settings and it doesnt look that great. AA is on but there is a ton of jaggies. Plus I'm only getting 24-34fps while recording. DayZ stays at the 45fps lock I have set in FRAPS.

Whats annoying me about War Z...Lack of info, cant find anything but players and tons of zombies, and the thing that is annoying me the MOST.....Zombies speed up when you do, so sprinting is worthless. When you sprint they walk faster and faster to keep up with you. SO if you have no weapon and are searching for items, you are basically guaranteed to get hit when you go to pick something up. That is, if you ever actually find anything!

I will be buying Arma 2 this weekend and trying out Da Z. Is the standalone going to be a whole new game of its own, box and everything? Or is it going to become a paid mod of arma 2 with professional support? I just don't want to get a game and then the devs of the mod decide to stop updating and be stuck with a game full of hackers.

The standalone version will be it's own game. From the DayZ site: "The standalone engine we are using is a branch of Take on Helicopters, which itself is a branch of ArmA 2 Operation Arrowhead. We chose this because of its stability, ease of development, very achievable optimization, and the fact that our programmers are the architects of the engine - the very people who built it from the ground up over ten years."

And from the DayZ forums:

If anyone here happened to get some extra keys from the billing bug, I would really appreciate if you can spare one. I bought the game and I am in Alpha, but I am trying to find one for my friend. It's totally fine with the developers if you hand out the keys freely, they said so themselves. thumb.gif Shoot me a PM if you have one to spare...

Dude. For you to put more faith in War Z than Day Z baffles me.

Assuming you're not a War Z troll, let me educate you. Day Z came first as a mod to ARMA 2 developed solely by one man. The mod blew up and gained over a million players, and now there is a team working on a standalone version of Day Z which will release before the end of this year as a digital download. It will not be sold in stores but you'll probably be able to purchase it through Steam or something similar.

Also, the standalone version of Day Z will be running on a modified ARMA 2 and 3 engine which will be optimized specifically for Day Z.

ARMA, and thus Day Z, is probably unlike anything you have played -- it can be played either in first or third person (if the server allows it), and all of the animations feel very good and distinct. It takes a couple seconds to go prone and get back up again; you can't just move around with extreme agility like you do in most modern games. The guns feel good if not a little stiff while aiming, and the sound effects are superb. The atmospheric effects are very good from the sounds of the wildlife to the rolling clouds and the occasional light rain. There are many little environmental effects which I often take for granted.

Personally, I really like the deliberate, detail-oriented, and somewhat slower-paced nature of Day Z. That's why over a million people haves played it! It's a lot of fun.

Crushing bugs and getting rid of hackers is the standline's primary goal right now. In the future, Rocket has some exciting ideas for gameplay, such as actually being able to modify the terrain in order to create caves. But, simply fixing the games current problems will be enough to make me quite happy for now.

I think it's much more likely that the War Z debs would abandon their game long before the Day Z debs ever wood. Unless Day Z standalone does something abhorrently wrong, it looks like Day Z is here to stay. I certainly cannot say the same thing for the cash grab that is War Z.
