For Sale or Trade:
Gigabyte 7970 SOC with Windforce 5X - RARE - you can't buy these!

Will Ship To: US48

Why do I want to sell this you ask? Because it's awesome, and I feel guilty even having it when someone else can have it that would appreciate it, and use it more than I do.

The awesome folks over at Tom's Hardware reviewed this card and then put in a disclaimer at the end which said that only 200 were made, and that none would be available for purchase in retail chains in the US. How did I come to own one then??? Well, at the end of the review, they put in a little blip about holding a contest to win one. I figured what the heck, and threw my name in the pot, and a few weeks later, they contacted me notifying me that I was the lucky winner! Lucky, yes, but deserving, probably not. You see, I don't game like I used to. Don't get me wrong... I love this thing, and feel extremely lucky to have been able to be one of the few people in the US to even be able to hold one in my grubby hands, and it's somewhat difficult for me to even part with this because it's just so cool. But alas, I've had it a month in my sig rig, and as you can see, it doesn't do the card any justice. The entire month that I've had this card, I've probably put in a good two hours of Skyrim, and that's it. What a waste, right??? I figured you would agree. That's why I'm selling it. Besides, selling it will help me greatly toward my new and burning passion for the minute, which is light painting. Unfortunately, this is a hobby that I can't financially justify getting into.

This leads me to what I'm willing to trade for: A midgrade DSLR camera with lenses plus cash if the camera is worth more than the video card is worth, as long as it's a camera within a hundred fifty dollars or so value-wise.

A little about this guy: This card isn't the exact card that Tom's Hardware reviewed. They dissected the review sample, and the one I received was a brand new one which was shipped to me straight from Gigabyte. It has zero scuffs, no dust buildup anywhere, and it has had no tampering, or removing of the heatsink or anything. I have not overclocked this card, because there was no need or desire to. It doesn't have a serial number on it. Didn't come with one. I'm assuming it was another review sample that never found a home, but I don't know. That's only an assumption.

If you want to just outright pay for it, I'll take $450 shipped to the lower 48.

If you want to trade, tell me what you have to offer in terms of cameras, and we'll talk turkey.

My personal requirements for this is that if you're going to trade, you need to have at least four positive marketplace feedbacks. Just playing it safe... Sorry. smile.gif

I'll take Paypal only.

And now for the fun part.... Pictures taken with the only camera I have, which is my crappy Droid X!

Very strange design, wouldent water cooling beat it in terms of oc/noise

Wonder how it fares vs the msi lightning 7970

+1 for coolness factor if someone wants to run it single
post #6 of 14
The cooler is far superior to the MSI Twin Frozr on the Lightning 680 and 7970 however the card is VERY heavy and sags quite a bit even with a backplate and requires 3 slots. I know because I had the Gigabyte 680 Super Overclock. However I would imagine this card can be overclocked by quite a bit. The sample over at Tomshardware achieved 1300MHz on the core a feat I've yet to see any Lightning 7970s achieve. Mine maxed out at 1210MHz which is decent but nothing spectacular.

Sent you a pm. Very interested

I was asked if the card's voltage would unlock in MSIAB, so I reinstalled the card and checked, and it does unlock. Also, someone asked for a GPU-Z screenshot, so here it is. thumb.gif

The stock voltage in MSIAB is actually 1174mV... I slid it up just a tad just to make sure that it would apply, which it did.
