[Completed] Shawdowfax - Watercooled Switch 810

post #1 of 7

Hi all,
Having had the itch to start a new project and my old rig bieng past it's sell by date I decided to take the plunge into the world of watercooling. The goal was to build a completely silent setup using current gen high end components for gaming and watching movies/music. I built this rig back in May but aside from a few issues with coil whine in the gpu and psu, I've only just had the time to upload some pics. The rig is named Shadowfax as it is white and fast, just like the horse it's named after in Lord of the Rings biggrin.gif.

Specs;

Case : White NZXT Switch 810
CPU: i5 3570k @ 4.7ghz
MOBO: Sabertooth Z77
RAM: 12gb Corsair Dominator RAM
GPU: AMD 7970 GPU
PSU: XFX 1050W Pro Series
SSD: 64gb Vertex 3 (OS), 128gb Kingston V+200 (Gaming) SSD, lots of other HDD's for storage
Sound Card: XFX Titanium Pro
Speakers: Custom home theater system
Scythe Kaze Master Flat Fan Controller

Watercooling Components;
Black Ice SR1 420 Radiator
Black Ice SR1 240 Radiator
White Bitfenix Spectre fans
Alphacool D5 Pump
Alphacool Plexi top
EK Supreme HF Plexi CPU block
EK FC 7970 GPU block
EK Dominator Plexi block
EK Multioption Reservoir 150 X2 Basic
XSPC UV Reactive 1/2" tubing
All black nickel EK compression fittings

Both radiators are in push/pull, however the fans are turned completely off using a Scythe Kaze Master Flat controller. At the moment there is enough radiator space to allow heavy overclocking of both the CPU and GPU whilst remaining completely passive (even the psu fan is off due to the hybrid fan design). I've sometimes managed to forget turning off the PC as it is 100% silent! The loop reaches thermal equilibrium with component temps well below that of air coolers (even with no fans turned on!).

Having been on the fence regarding the understated looks of the case, I have to say I don't regret building the rig one bit. I had a ball of a time doing it and the NZXT Switch was very easy to work with. I did do a build log at the time, can upload pics from it if anyone wants...

Hope you all enjoy as much as I did! thumb.gif

Beautiful build my friend. Normally I think white and black are a bit played out, but this is well executed. Nice job! biggrin.gif Plus, you named it after Gandalf's horse.

I was under the same impression too, originally I wanted to get the Mayhems Aurora but the maintenance put me off so I stuck to the pastel range. I suppose one drop of dye is all it takes.... wink.gif

Hi thanks, I do have a complete build log (see OP) but it's not been uploaded. I can upload it if people request for it no problem. smile.gif
