Why doesnt anyone have Am2 64x2 5000+????

Thread Starter
I just recently got an Am2 64x2 5000+ with an Asus m2n32+SLi Delux.
been researching on how much i could overclock with air cooling but nobody seems to have it. Everyone has Optys or 5200+/4600+

whats up with that? is there a reason everyone is avoiding this like the plauge?

Oh yeah, first post! woot.

Btw. looking to OC with thermalright Sl-128 + Delta 220 Cfm Fan.

Welcome mate.

As far as I know nobody has these CPUs because they are rare, expensive and don't OC that well. There's no particular reason to think your CPU is worse on OCing than the 5200 for example, but maybe the price premium isn't that big for the 5200 and the double L2 cache appeals more people to buy the latter.
IMO he CPU can go on air to 3.0 - 3.1 GHz, but not much more. This is kinda the upper limit for the 90nm K8-based CPUs.

With all due respect, the less expensive CPU of the same type usually OC as well allowing more bang for the buck. Some get the 9x versions when they have the components to afford good OCing at very HIGH bus speeds of 300MHz and above and others that can't do very high bus speeds opt for a 10x CPU.
Fill in your "System Specs" via the USER CP... the more we know about what you have the more quality info we can offer

Well, my AM2 5200+ is at 3.12GHz. It's stable enough for me. The only thing it won't do is Super Pi 8M-32M. Other than that, it's stable and runs Prime 95 just fine.

The reason anything past the 4400+'s is rare for OCers is 1) the L2 cache sizes, 2) OCers tend to buy cheap CPU's and OC the bejeezes out of them, and 3) all of the "cheap" 4000+'s got bought up before the first of the year (I know, I was going to buy one waited just ONE WEEK too late). So, all that's left are the 5200's and a very few 4800's (if you want the 2MB L2 cache).

It's not uncommon at all for the X2's to go over 3.00GHz. But, Ocing an X2 does depend on you mobo, RAM, and power supply. After I built my rig, it took me three weeks of tinkering, forum searching, and PMing to figure out how to get over 3.00. It's all in the post in my sig labeled 'Pics.'

I see that mikhsoj and Slowbra have the M2N32-SLI. Well, that's for all intents and purposes the same board as my M2R32-MVP. You have the SLI version, I have the Crossfire version. Pretty much everything worth mentioning is the same between them. I've got a small network of ocers with whom I've been communicating who have helped me OC my system. They have similar systems as mine (X2's with M2X32 mobos). Perhaps I and they could help you with OCing. Feel free to PM me.
