Tweak me!

Thread Starter
I have recently got myself a new system and although it is far superior to what I had before Im sure I am not getting the best out of it for the games I want to play. I have never really overclocked or have much knowledge about hardware/software so am hoping you fine people can help me out and teach me a thing or two. I downloaded SiSoftware Sandra and done a few benchmarks and wasent happy with my results and the same for 3dMark06.

Anyways Ill paste here my Motherboard spec from Sandra for starters.

SiSoftware Sandra

Basically before I start to OC anything I want to see if anything else can be done first to improve performance. I got this machine built for me so I want to make sure everything is where it should be. Also maybe by closing some ports that i will not use will improve performance? For example in the mb manual it says that if using 2 memory sticks then they should be put into DimmA1 and Dimm B1 slots only. Does this correspond to what Sandra reported? BANK1 - DIMM1 and BANK3 - DIMM3

Is some intensive reading before you OC,take a look.and read and read then try.We need you to get familiar with some terms like that you in 1 end and us in the other to understand each other.OK let's go.http://www.overclock.net/faqs/12415-...rclocking.html
Is most of the information you need. You need read some basic guides and GO.You have almost the same system like mine. But the react different. No all the systems are the same.

Ok I have read through quite a bit. Im still worried about OC for the first time though, and I still want to make sure everything is how it should be before I do OC. Few questions. First is there another monitoring program rather than the MBMonitor, also is there another program for WCPUID. Both seem outdated and dont support what I have. Thanks

Ahh and is CPU-Z a good bit of software to use?

CPU-Z is handy OCCT is a great and relatively quick prog to check for stability... I use that first then Prime95 and Memtest for a final testing.
as far as a monotering prog, try speedfan.

Get you RAM controler to either 4x up t 260MHZ on the CPU bus, then drop to 3x above 260.
RAM timings, voltage and base speed settings aremost of where it get deep... Try DDR333 or DDR266 to allow the RAM room to increase with the CPU, then work on the timings and voltage.

And..
Squeeze all the OC you can out of the CPU before resorting to voltage increases and keep the full load temp @ or below 50c.

Thankyou I have prime95 ready to go Ill check the others. I just found Tylerand post on software to have before oc... sorry I didnt notice it before. Ive read so much today my head is spinning.

Can anyone tell if my memory modules are in the right place? MB manual says DimmA1 and Dimm B1 slots only if I useing 2 sticks and Sandra says they are in locations BANK1 - DIMM1 and BANK3 - DIMM3. Are these the same?

Check the maual for the recommended slots, usually they are color matched and they should POST as Dual Channel when in the correct slots.

Somewhat. If your RAM is single-sided, then it should be correct. If it's double-sided, then I don't know why it is saying that.

Something else that can help in general system performance is a BIOS update which can lead to better performance system wide. However apart from the BIOS having the latest G-card drivers can help alot to along with the latest chipset drivers.
