My HTC using microusb does more than charge and sync? I don't see how there's an argument against this, these are facts.

That's it. A new proprietary connector, I'm gonna sell my desktop, laptop and Infuse 4G and by a mac mini and an iPhone5! They'll be faster and have better connectivity! Not!

If it plugs into a usb port isn't it just a usb connector? I'm pretty sure once everything went android they all got the same connector.

What does this fancy connector do besides Audio, Video, Power, and Data? Something that isn't software related please, I would like to know what the connector can do that MicroUSB can't.

This isn't a personal thing, though I bet you'd know more than most, you happen to have said it most recently. This entire thing is coming off an awful lot like "the Mac Experience", if you catch my drift.

And chinesekiwi's post had nothing of value. At all. Don't point me there.

There's not much more I can do to backup what I've said. There isn't (as you've found out) much information out there on the topic. Keep and eye out for Anandtech's iPhone 5 review, I'm sure it will cover it very thoroughly. I'm looking forward to it and we'll know for certain then what the deal with it is.

If you can't put the diamond in the square hole...well, charging your smart phone is probably the least of your worries.

...and ChineseKiwi's post was pretty good, but it did the opposite of what they were trying to do. That was the post that made me realize how idiotic Apple was for not using USB. There is no reason for it. Every single capability it has I can find in USB save for the reversible thing which I think is so stupid that I am sickened that Apple even spent R&D on it. Do that many users actually have issues with plugging in their phones? There dos seem to be some issue with charging the new IPad, but I think it would have been easier to make USB work than to actually invent a whole new plug. They even have the standard ready to go for more power over USB, but since it isn't needed for anything they haven't started using it yet.

Well, I think there is a reason...and it isn't money, (though they do make a tiny profit of it, but nothing compared to the price of actual devices). I think Apple is just using the cable/connector to say, "hey, we're different." Which is a large part of their marketing strategy.

LOL Steelbom...you do realize you are very wrong about USB is only for charging and syncing...there is HDMI output on it...my nephew has an airhog remote controller attachment for his phone that is actually pretty cool...there are base stations with speakers built in...any example found on a iPhone has the same thing on USB. Plus the number one benefit. I can unplug the the little USB hub on my desk and use the cable to plug into my phone. Can your iPhone do that?

I don't agree with propietary (SC) connectors. I just saw the LED thing and was like 'WANT" but still, userability is improved with the double design, but kinda lost when it only works with one device.

You'd think some one could invent some cable sleeving that has tubes with LEDs on the end so they glow or something. Obviously there is an interest in such a product.

I guess my point of view might be skewed a bit too...a month ago I went from using an iPhone for two years to my first Android based phone. I never realized how much of a pain it was to always be hauling the cable around with me. I am loving the portability of it. I basically use my phone as a flash drive now and there all sorts of devices at work that I can unplug temporarily and use to transfer a file to or from my phone. It has been amazing. My smart phone is actually...smart now. My old iPhone basically did nothing but calls, email, and calendar. I get so much more use out of it now and the major reason why is because of the mini-USB port.

Though of course if I can just blutooth files I will do that, but only some laptops around my work have it. If it didn't have the USB connector on it I would not be sure I could get the file off the phone. So I never even tried this on my iPhone...I am not even sure if you CAN store files on it unless you attach it to an email. I never bothered to try because I didn't want to be hauling a cable with me.
