Hey all, I am in the process of building a new PC. I would say that I probably have an above average competency when it comes to computers, but I am certainly not extremely experienced when it comes to the details. I use my PC mostly for high-end gaming, as well as common tasks like internet browsing and Microsoft Office. Occasionally I have used it for video editing, but mostly it is used for gaming.
With all that being said, this is the first time I have actually tried to build a computer strictly from just assembling components. I usually start with a pre-built PC and then continue to upgrade it until it becomes too obsolete (or in my last particular case, the caps on the motherboard fry). With this new build I would also like to start to get into the world of overclocking, although I don't have any experience with that yet.
My main question is what size power supply you guys think I need to cover everything, plus allow me to OC and allow for future upgrades. I have tried using some online calculators, but I seem to get varying answers. Also, as a side note I was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on how many case fans and which fans I will need for my configuration (I have no plans to get into water cooling). Any other general comments on the build itself are also welcome! As I said, this is my first build so any input will be greatly appreciated. Here is the current build:
NZXT Switch 810 case (4 x 140mm fans, but with up to 10 140mm fan capacity)
ASUS P8Z77-V Motherboard
Intel i5-3570K Processor
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Corsair Vengeance 2x 8GB DDR3 memory
Blu-ray/DVD-RW combo drive
2 x Western Digital 1 TB HDD
128 GB SSD (boot drive plus some common applications and a couple games)
SLI (two video cards that I haven't chosen yet, although probably something like a GeForce GTX 560 or 670)
Current power supply is the XFX Core Edition Pro850W 80 Plus Bronze
Will this cover all of my needs including once I really start to get into OC, or am I going to need something more? If I am going to OC, will I need to get 6 more fans to max out the fan space in the Switch 810, or will that much cooling be unnecessary and a waste of power and money? Any other comments on the build itself?
Thanks everybody for any help you can give.
