i7 3770k running hot even under water cooling.. new to OC'ing.. help appreciated on getting temps down..

Thread Starter
I am currently running i7 3770k, gb z77 ud5, raystorm 240 750 kit, 8 gb vengeance ram, 550ti , all in 600t corsair.. But temps are still way to high for setup .. temps are:

this is only OC to 4.5ghz !!! just spent an extra £300 on the new watercooling and case.. but not having much effect on temps at all... in fact pretty similar to my Arctic freeze 13.. not happy

Guessing i am going to have to jeopardise the warranty and try out this new thermal paste replacement under the i7 3770k hood.

Is it worth using Liquid Pro,... heard so many conflicting reports of the conductivity and so on..

Oh and those temp are only 17 mins of prime95 torture test.

any help on getting the darn temps down much appreciated.

New to OC'ing and watercooling.

How much voltage are you using for 4.5? If you have your motherboard set on auto voltage thats gonna pump way too much voltage into your cpu.

Also repaste your cpu block mount and ensure all of your watercooling loop is in order. Shake the case around a little to ensure no air pockets remain in the loop.

Hi,

I just updated my BIOS, and it crashed so lost my Overclock settings.. doh.. I have been using Easy Tune 6 for the overclocking, i think i set it to its highest preset overclock of 4.68, then tuned it down and set the voltage to Auto as i have no idea what a good voltage would be.. having said that i set it to the middle presset of 4.46ghz and the changed the multiplier to 45 from 44 and turned down the other setting not sure what its called think the bus speed to 102.4 or cloase to then made the voltage alittle higher.. this crashed my system and would not turn on for love nor money.. had to completely power off for 1 min.. but then booted.. loaded the optimum setting in BIOS.

The cooler is useing the stock Thermal Compound.. K-2 i think.. have some AS5 and got some MX-44 in the post and awaiting delivery.

I am almost 100% sure there is no bubbles/air in the system.. tapped the rad and had the case in all sorts of strange angles..

I think it is either the Thermal compound used or bad OC on my part..

It has an overclock feature that will auto tune the stem to its max capability.. hits 4.8/9.. but temp are way of the chart.. scary.. was hoping for 5ghz with the new cooling unit as its basically a custom loop.. *sigh* from what i have been reading this chip is great but severely restricted..

should DeLid this beast and apply MX-4/AS5 or get some Liquid Pro.

Or should i just take some time out and learn the ropes of overclocking alittle bit better and adjust the voltages and multiplier and stop being lazy with ET6.

I think you should stop using Easytune, read up on BIOS overclocking for IB, reseat your block and give it another go.

Just for comparison; I'm running my 3770K under water.
My vcore measures at around 1.36 volts while folding or running prime. My temps while folding are just below 70°C on the cores, but they're a little higher while running prime.
Just ran some small FFTs (8k) in prime just to test, and the temps stabilized at 70 76 71 73, which isn't to bad. But my 990X reached 70°C while folding @ 1.46 Vcore with the same water cooling, so the 3770K runs a bit hotter that previous intel cpu's.
