A new engine, or revamp will be mandatory for developing titles on the next-gen consoles, which dev kits have already been distributed for. You can be they're working on something new.

For CoD.. it has to be 60FPS. It's actually kind of important to the experience.

imo, even the first version of the engine made by infinity ward is still enough for today.
Of course the blackops and MW3 version looks a lot better.

Look at steam's hardware survey. Half of the entire world still use singlecore and dualcore cpus so developers need to optimize games for dualcores with 512mb of vram.

less than 6% use a single core.. so we should have multithreading standard by now. Less than 18% use 512 Vram.. so even in your postulate the 18% is by far the minority. We shouldn't be catering the design of games to the lowest end hardware possible.

Oh I miss the days of Myst and Master of Orion when to play the baddest new game you actually had to upgrade.

All of you complaining about COD and how they need to just quit making it, or make something new...

1) ALL FPS GAMES ARE THE SAME. -- Yes, your beloved Crysis, Farcry, Metro, Borderlands, Quake, CS, BF, etc. They're ALL THE SAME. Same premise... You run around shooting bad guys, and maybe get to pilot a vehicle here and there, but they're the same with different graphics.

2) PC GAMERS ARE THE MINORITY! -- Indeed the truth hurts. XBOX & PS3 gamers make developers money. You may complain about graphics now, but once they release the new consoles you'll be upset that your EPIC GAMING PC doesn't have games that look that good. It happens every refresh without fail. After 2 years PC Games will again look better on your rigs and you'll just complain about the shoddy ports you get from the XBOX 720 & PS4... The cycle will repeat once again, and surprise-surprise, you'll STILL BE THE MINORITY.

If you want a developer to listen to your cries, go support the new Star Citizen game. That'll be a game for PC gamers through and through... I've already pledged money. You should too! thumb.gif

Now, in the meantime, please stop complaining! Myself and MILLIONS OF OTHER gamers, many of whom have already posted in this thread (some lying about not doing it. lol) will be buying Black Ops 2 because it's FUN. If your life revolves around video games, it's time to go outside and experience the real world. Trust me, you'll like it. thumbsupsmiley.png

Every game ever made can be called "the same", depending on how much you are willing to generalize.

Exactly. The same thing applies to movies (popular ones at least). What is YOUR point?

Perhaps he was trying to make a counter-example. Would one say Baldur's Gate and Dungeon Master is the same thing as Skyrim? Would one say that Starcraft and Civilization are the same thing? I am not sure if you could just lump all the FPS games together. Quake 3 and COD:MW3 do not play the same to me even though they are running on distantly related engines.

if you generalize it to a point then yes all them games are the same BUT in reality Crysis, farcry and metro at least have completely different game play, they are more open then COD, in Crysis i can decide how i complete the level but with COD i have before sat back and left the AI to fight each other and managed to get through an entire level without shooting more than 10 rounds, yes I can do the same in Crysis but thats because I sit back and plan my next move, would like to see someone do that on any COD game out. Also if if COD is so similar then how come across the 3 Crysis SINGLE PLAYER games i have close to 400 hours of game play and am still not bored of them yet across all the COD games single player and multi player i have around 150 hours and i am so bored of them I have not brought the last 3.

can't really disagree with pc gamers being the minority tbh as i do agree.

my life doesn't revolve around video games I actually spend most of my time on my bike doing various cross country trails and downhill trails in area (well i did until i crashed yesterday and bent my back wheel (oops biggrin.gif)) but when I do sit at my computer and play a game is it really to much to ask that it isn't just a rehash and is actually a decent game that the developers have put effort into developing
