Client-side detection has the following pros and cons:

Pros - Cheaper and easier to implement. Requires less powerful servers. Allows easier cross platform / porting from consoles.

Cons - Gives ping and system speed significantly greater influence (favors laggy bastards). Complete inconsistency between what one person sees and what another person sees (I run behind a wall but the laggy loser can still shoot me because on his slow unupdated end, I'm still in front of him. because his computer determines if he hit me (and not the server), I die for absolutely no reason on my end). Incredibly easy to "hack" - if your computer says you hit something, you hit something - the server never validates that claim to make sure its possible (If I program my computer to send packets saying "I killed everybody with the knife", the game believes me and everyone dies from my knife).

Wow, that makes sense. So I'm guessing they implemented because it's cheaper? It would be in line with a lot of their decisions...

DICE admitted themselves that they "switched focus to consoles".

Consoles all use client-side detection because its easier to set up and server-side isn't really needed (or wanted) on consoles where the hardware is all the same, the OS is locked down, people are unlikely to easily hack it or spoof packets, and people just want to hop into an auto-join queue rather than have to manually search for a dedicated server.

Thus, rather than completely redoing their netcode for PC, they just used what already existed for xbox360.

I will invest in Premium. When it is $20 to $25 and no more!

Is this the case for every frostbite game from now on then?

CS in general right now is rather a huge mess due to the three games. Two out of three CS games are also fairly old and CS:GO tournaments haven't set full sail just yet due to the older games, compared to a AAA title that's been out for under a year. I'm more interested in seeing how many people are still playing BF3 in the next 6 months. Peak of CS 1.6 is still pulling 54,407, and Source at peak 38,001 respectively. Then you have TF2 which is still constantly pulling 70K+ at peak. I don't see BF3 pulling peaks that high 6 months from now, as it caters to the casual audience. Same goes for MW3 on the console, and most other AAA titles.

In fact yeah my point that BF3 was more popular or at least as popular as TF2 actually seems to be correct.

There's currently 65k online in BF3 and 71k in TF2.

Rumors of it's death clearly are extremely overblown.

You took what I said completely out of context, the numbers for BF3 are down quite a bit since launch, its death is definite though, you need EAs servers (Battlelog) to play the game and they've already announced BF4; BF3 will almost defintiely be under 10k players within 5 years while TF2 will likely still be around the same number it's been at for a number of years.

I know that RPG's didn't do much in BF2, atleast the tanks didn't auto repair!
Tac lights have always been for the cheap, low skill ceiling fitting, scrub players who's only hop of getting a kill is by using the cheapest tactic I have seen in a FPS game to date.
There is no whining, QQ, or rage in my posts. I am telling you how it is.
BC2 has no mouse acceleration when you turn it off, even with BF3 when I turned it of, its still there just not as severe.
http://bfbc2.statsverse.com/stats/pc/Jesse_snipe/ Far from a bad player.

It is whining actually as these complaints are not even legitimate as it reflects a lack of skill/understanding of the game.

your now complaining you get knifed when your out of ammo /herp derp. I first thought u were trying to shoot guys circling around you knifing you, but still pretty hard to get circle strafed in the game, you make it sound like you consistently get circle strafed knife. Any person who plays the game will either tell you your lying or you must be pretty damn awful.

There is something called sneaking around the tank dont even bother shooting it as it will just expose you to the tank. If you dont like autorepair play on HC but it sounds like you are having problems with regular mode already.

the tac light blinding does require no skill but def not OP and not a serious problem in the game, considering the player has to restrict themself to a possibly crappy pistol/gun.

Those are BC2 stats

You have some amazing proof for your theory chief. I wouldn't be suprised if Bf3 population has declined in 5 years as the same happened to the other bf games. But I don't see tf2 retaining the same population. If it is it will be a game of idle farmers if it isn't already. I don't even have one person on my steam list who plays the game legit anymore. They all just idle the game.

I'm not sure about you, but i'd take 2142's hit reg over BF3's any day.

I wasn't referring to 2142 but bf2, 2142 actually has pretty good hit detection and is much more balanced than any bf game, however it is the bf game that is pretty much dead.

not denying your skills just saying it is still possible to go front lines recons with a bolt action sniper in bf3.

Also one is free to play, full of farmers and dummy accounts and can run on pretty much any system. While the other does not have farmers, not free to play and has fairly high system requirements.
