Please don't get this thread closed before I get an answer. That's like the one thing that really hasn't been explained and I would actually like to see it explained by someone who claims to know what they're talking about.

I am a little hostile, but please educate yourself before making a response.

I saw your quote "Getting killed around a corner isn't because of netcode"

Well, if you have played Quake, CoD's Engine on Life support, CS. You will realize the netcode has been tweaked and matured.

Battlefield suffers as anytime they usually make a new game, its has all the hoops of Sound, DX Graphics, Netcoding and therefore struggles to mature and fine tune the netcode.

I am not saying going to a new engine every game is a bad thing, except DICE really struggles to iron it all out in the end product.

BFBC2, you may not like it, but as a Toe in a bathtab entrance into DX11 it did quite well.

With DICE's data on BC2, the engine should of been a much better revision of Frostbite than it actually is, its like they struggled to sort it out properly and it shows.

I've enjoyed the DLC's. Yea they're stupid expensive but also think of the overhead it took to develop them. Map design, weapon design, etc. Now alot of the maps feel under done, like they seem to be missing the detail of other games that have good maps. For instance, Crysis 2 has all sorts of different textures, stuff lying around, objects, whatever, and battlefield 3 just tends to throw in a: pile of wood, fence, bushes, that's about it. But I can't really complain too much. I think the best map so far has been Alborez mountains, armored shield is also pretty good, but like I said, if your playing a squad death match map without vehicles on that map and your just in the little town with buildings, there's like no objects around the buildings and it seems like they just stuck buildings on the map where there's no grass... its weird.

But I've enjoyed the different gameplays from the DLC's. It seems there's quite a contrasting selection of how you want to play the game. Original BF3, close quarters like CoD, then Armored kill where you can either long range sniper or tank own. It's fun for me because I can come home after work. Sit down at my rig, and decide how I want to play, what I feel like, either close quarters, normal bf3, or snipe/tank. I've enjoyed it.

I kind of feel BF3 is kinda the proving ground for the frostbite 2 game engine. Yea there's some bugs to work out, and that's probably why MoH is coming out, so once again, they can make money and yet still produce some similarities and yet still some differences with a different game. I think maybe them eliminating the additional DLC's were fact of them realizing that MoH is coming out soon and they're trying to move some of the BF3 community over to MoH in order to gain some revenue instead of releasing another DLC on an already 1 year old game....

I enjoyed Bad Company 2 quite a bit, actually, but it was one of the few games that I have experienced hit registration issues of that sort in. I personally thought BF3 was a huge step up from BC2, feeling a bit tighter and playing a lot smoother.

I don't know what the "technical" definition of netcode is, but all I know if that BF3 is one of the worst “feeling” shooters I’ve played in a long time. Maybe ever. I really enjoyed the game at first, but after getting teleported backwards 10 feet into a doorway to die more than full second after running past it over and over again it just really started getting old. I’ve played consoles shooters over fake LANS across the country with 500+ ping and never felt this disconnected with the game.

Call it hitreg. Call it netcode. Call it server/client hit detection. I don’t care. I wish it didn’t feel this way.

It feels like a sidegrade, its extremely frustrating, one does the other better, ones lacks something the other has. To be fair, I give BC2 8/10 and BF3 7/10. Just I found BC2 seemed to work with me a little more, I could be at one with my mouse and keyboard, where as BF3 it felt like I was fighting it.

As I said above, and adding that. BF3 has this nauseating feel to it. It just feels artificial to the point where I feel like I am not playing the game, I am merely riding it.

I agree, a FPS should be very pure. The glare, mouse acceleration, the oddness of it trying to be realistic makes me feel alienated trying to play it.

It's partial client side problems with how BF3 was coded and also just how the game is. The game requires a very good client side network and minimal ping, that is why the game always feels like its 500+ms ping. Also, from what I understand, the netcode is coded in the way that it automatically adds both server, and client side ping times together to make up the network. So this is how it works. Lets say the Server to you has a 10ms ping time. When you are playing against someone else that also has a 10ms ping time, the netcode is registered in a way so that when you face your opponent, the actual ping between the two players is 20ms ping because its both clients on the server. So in a more realistic scenareo, your 100ms ping with the other person your shooting at, who has a 100ms ping will actually register as 200ms ping between you both. That's my understanding on the client side, now i don't know if there's additional server side ping as well. So that could contribute to more ping.

Pretty ridiculous, when you can empty your banana clip in those 200ms.

O___o

Aside from the glare, which I never really had a problem with (it's overdone, but has never really gotten in the way), I haven't experienced any of these issues with mouse acceleration or the feeling that I have to fight my controls. I must be doing something very right.

Battlefield 3 has been one of the most solid FPSs I've ever played, TBH. It's probably the least frustrating multiplayer FPS for me as well. I just wish I could play it frown.gif Stupid faulty video cards.
