[AMD] Test drive AMD Radeon™ RAMDisk

Over the past year, AMD has entered the memory pool fray with an array of AMD-branded memory modules, to the surprise of many. During this time, we’ve been looking for new ways to both enhance the breadth of our memory offerings, and to keep AMD memory top of mind when it comes to your next memory purchase.

Recently we teamed up with Dataram, a top developer of RAMDisk software, to give systems more flexibility and performance with a RAMDisk. A RAMDisk is a software package that reserves a block of your system memory and turns it into a virtual hard drive that is recognized by Windows® with a drive letter (like C:\). Using this RAMDisk can help free your hard drive from unnecessary temporary files, limit unwanted writing to your SSD, and when used correctly, can dramatically accelerate the loading and processing times of games, demanding software suites and web browsing.

Ramdisks are meh for me. They are great for someone doing a ton of editing or cad where the advantage of moving gigs of data once onto super fast ram is advantageous over using an ssd. But for me, moving all my temp files onto ram disk didn't really do anything. It just increased boots and shut down times. Windows can already use ram for caching so for me (and anyone who doesn't leave their rig on 24/7) it seems pointless unless you need to access large files over and over.

That is interesting. I read a little about this, just what seems like the marketing but what goes on this? If you installed a game, wouldn't it be gone after a reboot. Does this application organize the space with ntfs? Seems like a cool idea.

Download your free trial today and begin creating disks up to 4GB using memory already in your system. If you've got AMD memory installed, enjoy creating disks up to 6GB (see 6GB Promotion Terms and Conditions).

Doh AMD doh.gif

We don't need this branded AMD ram disk utility.

ImDisk can do the same, no limitation, free, format in NTFS or whatever you want, save the image of the drive on shutdown.

usually its used for paging file.if you put content on it make sure to not shut off computer.(maybe amd worked a solution.)me?just having the active data not the whole game would be awsome.sadly ramdisk is slower then no page file at all.but then maybe amd worked a way to put all program cache in ramdisk ?this could be huge.who knows.will need to get more info.

I think I still prefer Fancy Cache, Bandwidth goes through the roof even with DDR2.  http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/fancy-cache/index.html

Set it up and then Bench the drives you assign RAM to as a Cache...Nice scores :)
