I would disagree and say that using the page file on a RAMDisk is perfectly fine as long as you still have enough space left. IE: don't do it with only 4GB of total RAM. Doing it when you have 16GB of RAM is fine.

Who needs a pagefile with that amount of RAM anyway. rolleyes.gif

Even if you need it, it would be small, for the minute amount of programs that need it.

I like RAMdisk because Mechwarrior Online lets you choose where to put the temporary storage at startup, under options. I do understand, however, that this is a specialized example.

ImDisk can do the same, no limitation, free, format in NTFS or whatever you want, save the image of the drive on shutdown.

Not by a large margin, but it is. That also doesn't take into consideration the access times and how much CPU power it takes to actually use one.

Then it competes with IMDisk, also in my 1st image.

Also, then there's something to be said about having an actual customer support number to call and someone to complain to when it doesn't work. (Radeon/dataram, SoftPerfect is seriously lacking in the support department and IMDisk has no support)

Ya sequential read/write is almost completely irrelevant when it comes to RAMdisk for everyday use. On that note, they all are both completely beyond any sort of bottleneck. That being said, I will just go ahead and post my own results for softperfect vs. Radeon which I detailed here. The only real argument can be made in 4k vs. 4k QD32, which is the real meat of all this and still only relevant in the realm of measurebation, as I said in the comparison.

Well, that's the point. You don't need to assign a big part of your RAM for it. 1GIG is usually enough. But for those apps that do complain about a lack of a pagefile, its there when needed.
