Ever think about going back to stock? (heat)

Thread Starter
I just got a beer fridge, and I did not want to put it in my computer room because my computer already heats the room up too much the way it is. I pretty much have to have a fan on or sweat while at my computer. I've honestly thought about going back to stock speeds just to cool things down in the room. Have you ever considered it?

Currently I play CSGO 99% of the time, I bet my 2500k at stock would still be overkill.

I've even considered moving my computer to another room. I happen to have my laundry room on the other side of the wall my computer is sitting. I could drill a hole through the wall and put it over there.

Just curious if anyone else is battling this issue. Of course winter is coming (I live in Iowa) so it will definately be less of an issue for a while.

IDK about if stock speeds will really matter. I have a mini fridge, water dispenser, and my computer in my room, and it gets rather hot. I need to find a good fan, because my room is pretty large and the ceiling fan only cools the part over my bed, and doesn't get to my desk and such. I dont think stock speeds will make a huge difference to your room temps though tongue.gif

Maybe your right. Just figured if I didn't notice the extra speed it might help.

I'll just assume your right, nobody wants a slower computer once they have a fast one. biggrin.gif

I'll go back to stock on my main rig when it will be repurposed as a server.
For any other reason I probably woudn't go to stock, unless it's overheating. In my case, difference from 4.0 to 2.6 is actually quite noticeable.

I built a home made HVAC for my computer. I fold all year round and before I had built that HVAC it could easily reach 32c in the room. I would suffacate. The hard part is in winter it goes down to -40c (around 0F) here. It's a little expensive for the watercooling stuff in the computer, but the HVAC's weren't very expensive to make. I now have balls to the wall OCs and a rig that fold when I'm not there. I get back to a nice cozy 20c in my room. ROG-BOX in my sig if you want to see the HVAC's.

I am not an expert on the thermals of a computer, overclocking doesnt add much wattage over your stock clocks so not much more heat. I have my 3570k on a clc watercooler and even when its at 4.7ghz the air coming out of then case isnt all that warm. And at 4ghz, its cold air coming out of the case.

Anything you add extra voltage to will get more current, and that current becomes heat. Granted IB has a TDP of 95w (77w?), so if you OC it just a little it won't make a big difference. The higher end GPU's however can be as high as 250w (or more) when OC'd (480,580,6970 etc). Granted if you only play video games it won't be that bad, but if you crunch numbers, fold, boinc or bit coin mine; you will get a good heat dump.

So in a small room with a good gaming computer and you could easily go from 450 to 600w of heat dump. Lets not forget the human body either. You've got between 90 and 120w of heat output. So up to ~700w of constant heat output while gaming in a small room and it'll get hot, maybe not quickly; but it'll get hot.

Chicago-ian here. Heat was never an issue while I had my rig in the basement for 5+ years. Now that I'm on the second story of a new house, heat is becoming a new issue. I have my sig rig OC-ed to about 4.2ghz and folding 24/7 and I usually sit at 60c CPU. That's with the ceiling fan on medium and window cracked.

I feel your pain. Somedays I just want to hit the "stock" button and sit in a cool room. biggrin.gif

But with winter coming up, heat won't be an issue. tongue.gif
