So this weekend I went off on a hunch to see if I can upgrade my moms DVR. She records HD shows and aparently the HDD that comes with it is only 300 gigs, which gets filled up rather quickly when recording HD. So she is getting tired of deleting shows due to the fact she likes to keep whole seasons on the DVR to watch whenever she wants.
So I noticed that the Scientific Atlanta DVR Cable Box (Offered by cablevision and time warner) has an ESATA port on the back.
Newegg had a sale on Harddrive Docks to connect internal harddrives to your computer without opening up your case, and either plugs it into USB or some have ESATA.
Bought the ESATA + USB Hard Drive Dock For 20 bucks
Bought a Seagate 2 TB Internal Harddrive For 100 Bucks on sale . (120 - 20% off)
and free shipping.
ordered on thursday and had it installed in 10 minutes on saturday.
simple plug and play, dvr asks u to format it, it works silently, then reboot the box and boom. WAS 50% full, now 8% full
