Complete watercooled system - But with NO airflow ? (In a box)

Hi

Hope that I can explain this with my bad English .... Lets say that I would build my system in 2 cases ...

One case where the PSU, Pump and Rads + fans was in .... The hardware will be in its own case:

- Asus Z77
- Intel i7-3770k
- G.Skill Trident
- GTX670

The GTX670 wiil be cooled with a Fullcover, and the memory with a waterblock. On the mainboard the Chipset + VRM will get a waterblock, just like the CPU.

All the parts thats create heat will be under a waterblock (I think ?) but would it be fine with NO airflow ? - If the box only had holes to let the "heat" out.

Just a very fast drawing of the concept (And to help my bad English)

If I am cooling all the main parts the creative heat, will it work ?

Waterblock on:
- CPU
- Graphic (Fullcover
- Chipset
- Memory
- VRM

Hope you can see what I mean, and got some input (And I now its not the best way to do things)

Regards Fonne

You should have at least one fan or something making an air current. No fans at all isn't a good idea. Less fans is a great one. wink.gif

even if you cool the motherboard, ram, cpu and GPU, all these components would still generate a good amount of heat, so if you trap that heat into an enclosed box, you will get really bad temps which is not good for your hardware.

You could do this with less fans but I'm not sure about none. What is the point of eliminating all of the fans? Noise?

mobo and ram probably still put out a good 30+W in heat alone... add some more for HDD/s and GPU.. your making an "easy bake" with no airflow in the case. rolleyes.gif

I would also suggest that you have some airflow running through the case, there are components in there that will generate smaller amounts of heat that aren't covered by your blocks. As a result with no airflow it'll slowly increase the temperature within the case and begin to affect temps (not much I'd imagine but it would be there), just buy some super quiet fans to get a bit of airflow and you're fine. I'd suggest the fractal design fans, I had a bunch of them in my old rig and you literally couldn't hear them but they pushed enough air to keep everything cool.

Its just an idea, but its about making it look cleaner smile.gif

If I got a fan under the box that blows into the case, would it work ? - Just one fan pushing air in, and then holes in the side to let it out ...

If your concern is space, don't forget that the video card lies perpendicular to the motherboard. This means that unless you have a custom PCI-e bus interface, your box will be at least as tall as the video card and long/wide as the motherboard. This is what I am attempting currently in my setup. My case is so short that I need to have right angle adapters for my PCI 12v connections, without them the connections to my video cards are too tall for the case. My goal is to have ivy bridge cpu, micro atx motherboard with room for 4 sticks of RAM, 2xGPU in SLI, SSD, and PSU fit along with a watercooling setup consisting of reservoir, pump, CPU+GPU blocks, and 3 or 4 120mm reservoir sections. I'm hoping to fit all of this in a 440mm x 150mm x 325 mm case. Basically take your box, put radiators on each side of the video card, next to themotherboard put your PSU, and in the corner where your PSU is shorter than the motherboard, put your reservoir, pump, and possibly another rad or case fans. I have my fingers crossed that it will be successful.

The only problem is not just the size, but also how it looks and how to showcase your hardware smile.gif

- Hope that the one fan will to the job smile.gif

As long have a lot of holes in your case, it should be fine to run with no fans. Many computers run with no fans.

You will need more holes than the amount you have shown in your diagram however.
