Reliable 1-2TB HDD?

Thread Starter
So I just had to send my 750GB WD and I have to send my 1TB Hitachi drive back also for replacement but I have nowhere to back up my files.
So, I am looking for a reliable, decent speed 1-2TB HDD.

I looked at the Samsung F3 1TB and a couple other drives but I'm pretty clueless.

Any manufacture will do, as long as you have redundant backups it shouldn't matter who made the drive as any drive can fail at any time regardless of who manufactured it.

I've had good luck with spinpoint f3's.

keep em cool, they'll last longer.

If you really can't afford to lose the data, backup often or run RAID1.

This, basically just look into warranty length and if possible get a newer 1TB/platter drive.

Do they usually run hot? What temps should HDD even stay at? I never pay attention to HDD temps.
Currently, my Hitachi is 38C and WDCaviar Black 42C.

Also, WD10EZEX drive that stubass linked is 1 platter/TB drive. Does it mean it's better than the F3 which is a 2 platter (500gb/platter) drive even though the WDBlue is slower?

That is actually normal and about where they should be.

The WD Blue is faster and has a longer warranty.

Yes, that's the one I read over. I saw the 20ms access time and I think that made me prefer the F3 because of its 9s.
Also, my motherboard only supports 3gb/s and the drive is 6gb/s so I am not sure about that..

Short stroke the first partition to like 60-100GB. The speeds make up for latency mostly. You should get a SSD for the OS. tongue.gif

And I get 14ms latency on my F3s. Never seen 9s in my life.
