It has all the features I want: Full size mechanical keyboard using Cherry MX Brown, all full size keys are mechanical (unlike Corsair K90), and there are designated media keys (volume scroll a plus) rather than requiring FN or SHIFT + another key for media controls. The lack of designated media keys is the only real issue with the Nighthawk X8. I also like the sound dampening - something I planned on doing with the X8 ($20-$25 for the O rings rolleyes.gif). I do prefer the Nighthawk X8's appearance. The G710+ would be a pretty good looking keyboard if not for the orange boarder on the G-Keys (WTH is Logitech thinking?). Dual USB connections is another negative since most of mine are used already and space is tight in FT02. I think you only need to use one though. The Nighthawk has FULL key rollover (though how anyone would need more than 26 or even 10 is beyond me) and TWO USB ports with only a single USB connection.
Despite all the negative comments, if the build quality is good, I think this the right keyboard for me - especially if I can get it at a discount. Before I make my decision, would you please answer a few questions?.
(1) What is your impression of the overall build quality? Is the keyboard frame solid? How about the USB cable? Any concerns about long term durability?
(2) Do all the keys, including when the "gaming" mode is used, light up evenly? In the Logitech video, the S & D keys were much brighter than the W and A keys in "gaming mode.". My guess is that it was due to camera angle since it would be a big defect otherwise.
(3) Is it hard to see the markings on the WASD and arrow keys if the lighting is turned off? I suppose I could order replacement keys if I don't like it back-lighting 24/7, but it's expensive enough already.
Thanks for the reply and the post.

Totally agree, I think it's a great looking keyboard outside of that freaking orange strip. It looks like it's removable so you might be able to paint it.

I'm just worried about build quality more than anything, I was waiting for this keyboard when I saw it leaked. It fit the bill perfectly for me. White LED, full sized, media keys, and brown.. but there aren't many reviews out and this is the only person I know who personally owns it.

I thought the G710 wasn't coming out till the end of October because Amazon won't have it in stock till then, so I went ahead and bought the Lightning deal CM Quickfire Pro and I quite like it, though I could use dedicated media keys and a full backlight, the partial just makes you really want a backlight more than not having one at all!

Correct me if I'm wrong, and maybe the OP can confirm/deny this but I think the USB port is actually a pass through, not a hub, so it's full powered meaning it should power phones, tablets, etc just like one built into the PC, while some hub keyboards will not.

1)I think it's great. I haven't noticed any odd things really. I just installed the logitech software today and my only negative is that I can see it has at least one bug with switching inbetween my G930 and the G710+ (doesn't want to switch back to the G710+ until you remove the G930 receiver, but it won't matter if you don't open the software very often).

2) I haven't noticed that, I just turned the "gaming mode" on and I don't see any difference. There are 5 different settings for how bright you want the LEDs to be, so if you want the ASDW / Arrow keys to stick out more than the rest of the board, you can. Maybe that's what they were trying to show in their video?

3) I would say it's a little harder, but I'm use to a keyboard so I personally wouldn't notice or look. If the LEDs are on I wouldn't have any issues with it (on the lowest setting it doesn't even look like they are on). The colors of other keys such as the RTYU are easier to tell apart from the WASD when all the LEDs are off

haha I just noticed that I haven't been using that second USB cable at all. The board works perfectly fine on one cable, the second cable is for the port on the board itself (like a USB extension cable). The usb cable is thicker than some HDMI cables I have.. I wouldn't worry about it breaking at all.

Could you plug the keyboard into another computer check for me if the media keys work without the Logitech drivers? I don't really care for the macro keys, and I'd rather not have to install the bloated SetPoint stuff (or whatever it's called now).

Cheers. thumb.gif

None of them. It's a company mech keyboard enthusiast don't have "knowledge of". Of course, I'm not going to spill the beans.

Don't understand why you're so worried in the first place.

Why not?

@dudenell: Thanks for the quick reply. Nighthawk X8's are supposed to be back in stock in the next few days so I needed to make a decision soon. Unless something changes, count me in as a future 710+ owner. Your responses make me feel better about buying the board given the lack of current reviews. Regarding the lighting (ques. #2), it's hard to explain - you really have to watch the Logitech launch video (time 0:52 - 0:58). It's very noticeable. Given your response, it's probably the camera angle like I thought. As for the grey keys, if I don't like them, the great thing about mechanical boards is that you can always replace the key caps easily (more money though rolleyes.gif).

@ Appleanche: I bet you can take that orange boarder out, though I don't know how well paint adheres to it . One person said they would just color it black with a Sharpie. Given the amount of criticism about the orange color, I wouldn't be surprised if Logitech came out with different color replacements (all for a "small" fee of course). Regarding the 2nd USB connection - I bet you're right about it being pass through since the board works fine using only one. Still, I think it would have been MUCH better to have that second USB connection be (1) a separate cable; (2) removable from the keyboard rather than hard wired; and (3) USB 3.0 (Gah it's 2012 Logitech!). Lastly - yeah, at $150 (or Euros), build quality is a big deal. A three year warranty would have been nice at this price.

@Skylit/Skar/Any one else who knows: If you know who the OEM is but can not or do not want to say, if nothing else, would you please give your to quality versus other OEMs (ex. it's better than ABC, but not quite as good as XYZ, etc.)?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm looking forward to getting this board - hopefully on sale! Upon further consideration, while $150 is not cheap, as long as build quality is good, the price isn't as outrageous as some make it out to be. It's a full size board so of course 10 keyless keyboards will be cheaper. It's not like you can get numpad peripherals for free. All full size keys are mechanical unlike the Corsair K90 which should be cheaper accordingly. Ducky, Max Keyboard (Nighthawk), Filco and Razor(?) offer full size, all mechanical key models for about $5-12 less, but none of them have dedicated media keys (FN+ something is not the same thing) or even game/macro keys for some models. At $150, the 710+ is not a bargain, but at $125 or less, I think this board has relatively good value.
