Well, my PC just crashed. Same thing just happened with my friend's power supply.
I'll run all of memtest and see if it brings up anything.

That time I was playing the Sims, but it doesn't matter what I'm doing.

COuld be a bad HDD. I just replaced my GF's Seagate 500GB 7200RPM last week, actually. It kept randomly crashing on her after a year and a half of running solid, then, BOOM. No errors, no windows reports. Nothing. Then the drive started to chirp, which was indicative of the issue.

Hrmmm. Are you sure your pump is running at all times? Sometimes the molex connector on them can come loose and your PC will auto-shutdown when it gets too hot.

It's not the hard drive; it even does it when I'm in the BIOS or running memtest from a flash drive.
It's also not the pump, as I keep a keen eye on the temps when I'm gaming and it never goes over 60c.

Well, this is very strange. I was running memtest with one stick of ram, and it had been running for about an hour. I walked into my room, and it just shut down. I think it could be my power button stuffing up.

I've disconnected the power button and I'm running memtest again.

Done heaps of memtesting, and now it had come down to the board being stupid with ram. I've testing all of my ram separately, and it all passes, in all of the red slots (the ones that I was using before), but still won't pass when it's all in together. The PC won't even post when I put the ram in the other slots, but they're not dead, as I put 2 in red, and one in black, and it all worked (apart from failing memtest).

This is so stupid...

But if you run with just two sticks it seems to work okay?

Boot with just one stick see if it fails, after try 1red socket 1 black then the CPU should act as single channel ram see if it still works, try useing the ram slots closest to the CPU, there is one slot thats has to be populated else you would get a ram beep from bios.

In some cases you may get only 1 ram stick accepted you have to work out wich slots work and add ram , keep trying till it works since your sig tells xeon cpu i guess it´s tripple channel so try with 2 ram sticks see if it goes bad with 2 try 3 after in other slots.

I read alot about ram errors on newer Icore cpus i expierienced it myself i had to reassemble my rig many times till i found out it´s was a dual channel issue and it works with single channel so you may have a bad ram slot or a bad cpu, the IMC seem to get messy with multi channel ram.

OK..hope you guys don't mind me jumping into the fun..this is classified as a ( tough dog problem ) in my book. You guys have tried all the usual troubleshooting steps..let me suggest some steps that are unusual. I call this my (round robyn) move, when you have the time, good lighting, a can of contact cleaner, a magnifying glass, and a rabbits foot handy, try this; pull everything out of your sys carefully, while doing so look for anything unusual to fall out, or appear burnt or overheated. Spray all of your plugs and sockets with contact cleaner, use cotton swabs where you can. Slowly give a good look see at your entire motherboard for burnt spots, swelling or cracked components, or an errant screw or washer wedged in somewhere ( the mag glass helps here ). Turn the motherboard over and look for corroded or unsoldered connections, along with anything unusual that doesn't look right. Don't hurry this step do the same with all your plugin pc boards, do a good job here. Pull on all the wires that go into plugs carefully..not too hard but hard enough to see if the wire is in there solid. Before doing all this your sys should be cleaned well and kept that way.In the event you do not find anything that you can see wrong with you sys..then..see below.

Last but not least..about the rabbits foot..ahem...toss it up into the air and note if it lands on the foot or the arm bone. If it lands on the foot..you have a good chance that your sys will run perfectly on the first go anyway..if not..consult your favorite diety.

I have a few well worn favorite troubleshooting words and phrases..that do work on occasion that I will share if asked in private..( do not use these words if the gals are within earshot ).
