775 ddr3 mobo for overclocking e8400

Hi everyone,

I bought a ASUS P5G41T-M LX2/GB/LPT a while ago but it doesn't overclock at all, i'd like to overclock my e8400 to 3.6, I found this cheap ASRock motherboard and was wondering if it would do the job.

Here's the link to the mobo - http://3btech.net/as4c775coqu1.html

Screenshots of the bios - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mainboards/display/asrock-4core1600p35-wifi_5.html

If you're only aiming for a modest overclock of 3.6 GHz, that motherboard might get you there. However, it's not a great - or even good - overclocker based on the next page of the review that you posted. In addition, it looks to have only a few VRMs, which aren't even heatsinked, and the 24-pin power connector placement is horrible.

I like my e8400 but i'm thinking about getting an am3+ mobo and cpu since the good 775 ddr3 motherboards are so expensive, I might get it while I save money for the amd stuff, thanks.

What do you think of the Maximus Extreme 775 X38? The only problem is I don't have a water cooling system, can you still use the board without one, or will it overheat?

This board is about as different from the ASRock as it gets. The ASUS should be an excellent overclocker and its built-in cooling system will work fine without connecting it to water. My only concern is that the area around the CPU socket is a little tight with all of the surrounding heatsinks; it'd be a good idea to verify compatibility with your CPU cooler.

It says it is here but i'm still not sure, the water connectors seem to get in the way, hopefully i'm wrong. I only have $250 to spend so instead of getting the AMD stuff i'm gonna get this board and a Radeon HD 7770 this way I won't be left without a graphics card. Just gotta wait for the money, maybe a month or two, thanks for your help Kota.
