need help choosing psu

Thread Starter
So I just killed my 2nd corsair hx1000w in under a year. Fortunately, Corsair's RMA department is fantastic so I have a replacement on the way. I'm not interested in killing a 3rd so I think it's time to get something new. I'm looking to go about 1200 watts. I have been looking at PC power and cooling as I have heard good things but I just discovered they are a decision of ocz and I have heard some bad stuff about ocz. Is there a difference between PC power and cooling and the ocz branded psu's? I am also open to any other suggestions.

Thanks for the link. Looks pretty comprehensive. I'm at work now but I'll definitely dig into it when I get home.

I have a very similiar rig then your and after killing my TX750 i picked the AX1200 and i couldn't be happier. I will never go back to something that is not fully modular. You'll find out that a lot of people like to call anything over 800W to be "overkill" but i prefer be safe then sorry and having room to upgrade is always good.

And yes Corsair RMA is just crazy, i sent my dead TX750 from Brazil to california i think and i received a brandnew unit in less then 20 days... i was like wth!@

What unit is Corsair replacing the HX1000 with? IIRC, the HX1000 had quite a few defective units sold that had failed overtime, and you may have owned one of those unit. If you had gotten the HX1050, that should be plenty to power your current system as well as a superior performing PSU than the previous

The first time I rma'd (about 3 months ago) they sent me another hx1000. This time I'm not sure what they are sending. It should arrive tomorrow. I'm hoping they are out of stock and have to send an hx1050. That would be a keeper but if it's another hx1000, I'll probably sell it and pick up something different. I'm kind of surprised this has happened twice, corsair psu's are supposed to be top notch.

Wow, I might actually jump on that. I haven't heard much about sea sonic, I'm guessing they're pretty good? I probably don't need 1200w but these sb-e chips guzzle power (mine sucks down 230 watts while priming) and i 'm using about 100 watts just for cooling (pumps and fans). 1050 would probably do it but I worry I'll be cutting it close.

You would be quite comfortable with an 850 watt unit to be honest.

you've never heard of seasonic power supplies? ohno-smiley02.gif

imo, its always good if you have at least 100w breathing room. if you think, that the 1050w might be to close, than you should go for the 1200.
