Need advice on tripods.

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a tripod for my nikon d5100.
The body only with a battery weights around 560g, and the lenses which I might buy in the near future weight less than 1000g.
So i'm guessing that it would be a good idea to buy a tripod which supports around 2kg at least. But I'm thinking that going with something that can support 3kg or more would be a better idea.

My budget is between £100-150. I might be able to stretch a bit, but not by much.
I would also prefer something that would be able to reach around 175 cm in height.

Any suggestions, or pointers as what to avoid and etc. ?

I would go minimum of 5KG for some future proofing, as well you don't want to be too near the maximum weight supported by your tripod for obvious reasons.

Your tripod is not something that will get outdated so it's best not to skimp out and buy the right one once. Rather than the wrong one multiple times, plus risking the safety of your equipment.

I have one of these and I highly recommend it!

Reaches 178,5 cm in height and comes in a tad under £110. Though you're still gonna need to pick out your head.

Thanks for the suggestion
I've checked it out and it seems good, but I would like something a bit taller so I could have my dslr at my eye level. A tripod which would get dslr to be anywhere between 165-170cm above the ground will do the job nicely.

Also from what I've seen the most popular brands seem to manfrotto, gitzo and silk. Any others worth considering?

Thanks. I was thinking about going with a ball head. Is there something that you would recommend?

055s are heavy, bulky legs. Think twice before you buy -- can you check any local stores?

P.S. Gitzos are great, but big money. I wouldn't spend Gitzo money for a D5100.

He's from the UK; he can handle the weight.

There is a local store with 055s, so I am going to check it out before I make final decision, and it weights 2.4.kg so it's not too bad.

Now I need to decide on a head to go with this tripod,.
How does this look?

If you want lightweight but super sturdy for a pretty reasonable price, check out Sirui tripods. I'm not sure about availability in the UK, but their basic aluminum tripods are very well made.
