Questions about overclocking an MSI geforce gtx 660ti

Thread Starter
I've started following the guide on the side bar of reddit.com/r/buildapc titled "The Ultimate Overclocking Guide" for my gpu. I've been upping the clock speed 10 MHz at a time and running the two benchmarking tools(furmark and unigine heaven).

I've gotten up to +80 stable so far, and I know it can probably go higher, but the guide doesn't say anything about manipulating power limit and core voltage. Also, I can't adjust the memory clock at all. If I go up by just 5mhz, heaven crashes. Does anyone know a guide that include explanations for those?

All I can find are card review articles whose exact values I've tried to punch into afterburner but which make my card crash.

Im running unigine at:

Render: direct3d11 Mode:
1920x1080 8xAA fullscreen Shaders:
high Textures:
high Filter: trilinear Anisotropy: 16x Occlusion:
enabled Refraction: enabled Volumetric: enabled Tessellation:

I'd overclock the vcore as high as it goes, until I hit unstable, and then work on the memory, as overclocking the memory will not give much performance compared to the vcore. Additionally, if I wanted more then I'd play with volts and inch up the vcore until I reached a max safety volts. All cards are different so values don't count much, you have to find them for yourself. Always keep an eye on GPU temp while doing this.

Your process sounds fine. I wouldn't mess with the voltage now - get comfortable with the card and overclocking first before you start fooling with that (assuming your card can actually over-volt - most can't). Be sure to turn the power limit up ll the way - otherwise the card will power throttle and cut the clock speeds under lod.

I've noticed, no matter what I do, I can't get my cores to go up. They just boost to whatever.

It's almost like I'm best not overclocking at all, and just raising power limit, doing literally nothing else.

I did change my fan curve to 0% to 65C, and 65 to 80C it scales from 0 to 100%

Never breaks 40% though.
