[OBR] AMD FX-8350 "retail?" performance

Thread Starter
Quote:
Average performance of FX-8350 is about 8.5 percent higher than the FX-8150. In single-thread performance is new CPU better about 4.2 percent, in the multi-thread performance of 11.2 percent. Not bad for only tweaked BD, but still far from performance of Sandy/Ivy Bridge.

Interesting, but again like all the others from obr, grain of salt (not sure what his numbers even mean).

Think of Piledriver as a glorified new Bulldozer stepping.

so does this suggest that the clock for clock performance would be the same?

The 8150 is at 3.6ghz and the 8350 is at 4ghz. So clock the 8150 up to 4ghz and you close that 8% gap.

Unlikely, I bet he left turbo on so they were at the same speed.

Yep. A 0.4 ghz increase is a ~11% increase from 3.6, so unless IPC somehow went down, the numbers don't make any sense if we're using stock clocks.

They both turbo up to 4.2Ghz, I don't trust that he set them at the speeds listed, I guess we'll find out next week though.

Without a doubt. But he was pretty close w/ original BD Numbers.

Still......the numbers do seem odd. I wish he would put up the benchmark breakdowns......

These benchmarks suck.. Look at single thread performance. The 2700k is 8% faster than the 2500k yet is only 6% higher in clock speed. Also the fx-6100 loses to the fx-8120 in single threaded yet is clocked higher. It's that way for a lot of the processors. The AMD 980 should smoke the 1100 in single threaded benches yet loses despite being clocked 10% higher.

8.5 percent average gain with a 11 percent higher clock? Sounds fishy.. anyway, a few things will make or break it for me and piledriver:

Power draw under control! (Most important)
Reliable and stable 5ghz+ on air/water
Cheaper overall system cost than i5 rig
Higher IPC than original BD, doesnt need to be much depending on price after inicial drops
