So i was just bored playing about with my bios and thought id up the multiplyer on my ram from 6 to 8.

this now leaves my ram sat at 1600mhz. It is 1333mhz stock and its perfectly stable.

i left the timings at 9 9 9 24 33 which is where they were at when running at 1333mhz, and voltage is also standard.

is this a good overclock or should most ram from a reputable manufacturer be able to hit 1600mhz?

Exceptional results!

Overclocking generic memory (like your kit)is tougher because minimal binning standards may result in you getting a kit that does not budge. I've seen it happen. 1333 kits should normally not be expected to hit 1600 because there is a massive gap between 1333 and 1600 with the binning put into perspective. It has to do with 1333Mhz (@ CL9) being a generic standard vs 1600Mhz being a performance standard.

DDR3-1600 usually costs the same nowadays.

Yeh I know the price was the same when I ordered but I read somewhere that ph2 memory controller can't handle 1600mhz so got 1333 to be on the safe side.

I just tried experimenting with timings as I read somewhere that 1333 at 5 5 5 24 is better on ph2. I managed to get to 1333 and 7 7 7 24 but any lower than that and it would not post.

Phenom II memory controller will handle DDR3-1600 perfectly well, there is no reason to worry.

As for Ballistix Sport 1333, they can be based on a large variety of ICs, starting with Micron D9JNL and ending in D9PFJ ... but in most cases they should have no problems hitting 800MHz.
