RAM performance with CPU upgrade

I know the 1st gen i3 had a weak as hell IMC, and i consider myself lucky to have my RAM OC'd to 1600 MHz CAS 8 CR 1t. I'm wondering, if i upgrade thje CPU to an i5/i7, would i see a better OCing performance for my RAM (Samsung 2x4GB DDR3-1600 MV-3V4G3D/US sticks) or the Nehalem platform cannot get too high RAM OC's considering the IMC can only handle "up to" 1333 MHz RAM.

What are you trying to use the system for? 1600MHz CL8 is fine for just about anything except benching.

I'm actually looking for a bit more BOINC stability. I have figured some of the tasks i run are getting invalidated by the CAS setting, even if it works flawlessly for anything else, be it game, bench or stress test. And completion times did improve a bit between CAS 11 and CAS 8

Perhaps consider purchasing RAM that's better for overclocking or runs faster at stock? It's fairly inexpensive these days.
