Advanced Micro Devices Misses Revenue And Margin Expectations:
Quote:
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) announced preliminary financial results on 10/11, noting that it would see a 10% sequential drop in revenues against the guided 1% drop, +/- 3%. Further, the company announced that its gross margins would be around 31%, rather than the previously guided 44%, due to both a $100M inventory write down, as well as lower than expected selling prices.

Even with their awesome APU's it seems like AMD is slowly on the way out. I wonder if anyone is making offers yet.

Bad news. Even if AMD can be inferior to Intel sometimes, although not for my purposes, I still try to buy their products to help support them. No competition in the CPU market is bad for everyone if they go under.

With Windows coming to ARM, there will be plenty of competition. Tegra, Snapdragon, and Apple's Ax chips.

its pre-election jitters slowing demand, some global unrest, uncertainty in europe and slow global demand and some market retraction. I expect similar results from every manufacturer this quarter.

Intel warned too. Wonder if Nvidia or Qualcomm will...

Intel will likely own the high end. Snapdragon, Tegra, and Atom will own the mainstream.

It's not good news if Intel is spending that on marketing and R&D.
