CM Storm Spawn messed up

Hello,

I got the Spawn when it came out quite a while ago.
Although I did like it a lot, it didn't cut it once I switched to being a 'low senser'.

So I put it away.
After hearing the 61 firmware fixes the maximum tracking velocity, I dug the Spawn up again and flashed it with the 61 firmware.

True enough, it really does fix the tracking speed issues.

But, sadly, I have a much bigger problem with my mouse now:
I had it set at 1800DPI, and suddenly it switched down to 800 (I assume; it was a LOT less than 1800 anyway) on its own. (I had disabled the DPI switches, and assigned keystrokes to those buttons)

I re-flashed the mouse and set everything up again, running @ 1800DPI @ 1000Hz.
A few minutes of gaming, and I had the same problem again.
This time, I decided to just live with the lower DPI and adjust the game's mouse sensitivity.

But then something much worse began to occur:
Whenever I did a few very fast swipes in game, the mouse died. it just stops working. You can even hear the typical 'hardware disconnected/hardware connected' sounds that Windows makes when you plug in/unplug a USB device.
A few seconds later, the Spawn 'reboots' and its back to working (albeit at that low DPI) again.

But this happens every time I do some really fast swipes. Its as if the mouse gets overloaded with too much data. Like a 'buffer overflow', which ends up shutting down the mouse.

Has anyone here experienced this phenomena? Is there any way to fix this?

I cannot RMA the mouse. Its too old for that. Plus I've had it opened up to see what it looks like inside, and I've put other mouse skates on it. There's no warranty on this rodent anymore.

Any advice?

I'm almost completely sure the cords end isn't get proper contact with the PCB most likely due to overstressed solder. If you have a soldering iron and spare mouse feet you should be able to just resolder the wire to the PCB, but keep in mind the screws are usually under the mouse feet (not sure sold my spawn a while back).

Thanks.
So you think that the fact that the disconnects occur when I do fast swipes have to do with me stressing the cable and not data overflow?

I just cannot help thinking there's something wrong with the mouse that has nothing to do with the cable. The DPI suddenly resetting to lowest possible. I don't think the cable has any impact on that.

But I'll take the mouse apart tomorrow and see.

Do you use the drivers? If you don't it wouldn't surprise me if DPI settings weren't saved if the mouse loses power without warning. Additionally I can see you're skeptical so try this: pick your mouse up and with your other hand wiggle the mouse cable around so that the cable at the point where it enters the mouse is significantly flexed.

Try lower polling rate, 500Hz or 250Hz.

Yeah, there's definitely no issue with the cable.

And I don't have the drivers installed on that machine.
I have it installed on a 2nd PC.
They aren't drivers, per se. Just software to set up polling rates etc.

Pity CM doesn't have Logitech's gold standard customer services, or I could get it replaced for sure.
