If it's on the disk it is not DLC. DLC is downloadable Content. Already finished and included in the gold master version.

Do people actually care for DLC? All I care about is beating the game from start to finish the way the game was meant to be played. I don't care what happens afterwards or if the company decides to release 5 more DLCs after that.

"Charging what the market will bear." has become the PC way of saying "Boiling the frog.". THQ's attempt at doing this last year with MX vs. ATV Alive, even if it failed, shows that developers are trying to withhold as much content as possible for later DLC. They will try it again and again, until they succeed or are convinced it will never work. These are just the opening salvos in a game developer's war on the gaming consumer's wallet.

It's AMAZING how many people miss that. How is it DLC if it's on the Disk, that's not DownLoadable Content... Also if it's on the disk, you already bought it, since you have own the disk. Charging you again for information you already own is very unethical. Who would support paying for something twice?

This is why I stopped buying most games, unless they are $5 or less on Steam.

End of the day, Day 1 DLC was not cut from the base game in 90% of situations. Of that 10%, ~8% was planned early in development, cut due to time constraints, and then a team that finished their project early petitioned for additional funding to pick that content up off the cutting room floor. That other 2% is what's being argued against, but even then it's typically only done to cover inflated development costs elsewhere.
Only someone oblivious to game development wouldn't recognize that Day 1 DLC not being there would mean that that content would never have been developed or simply not developed until post-launch.

This. DLC is rarely cut from the original game just to sell for extra. Projects start with a design goal of what their end product is going to be in scope. It's most often a matter of money and manpower to bring extra content around, and in the rare case it isn't, it basically never leaves the base game as a "non-full" game. I see absolutely nothing wrong with charging for content you were going to charge for anyway; who cares where it's stored if it wasn't supposed to be part of the base product? Better start whining at any other millions of products that have different quality/substance/price levels! I mean, aren't you entitled to the best version of a car just because you're buying the car? WHAT!??! What do you mean I have to pay for upgrades!???!!!!! /whine

If it adds meaningful content/mechanics to a game I loved playing through, then I'll buy the DLC if I think it'll be fun. I don't care whether a game I played releases DLC just because I played the game... it seems many people feel slighted somehow and magically, for a company releasing more parts to a game they don't play anymore and bought knowing what they were getting?

I think the issue here is that if its already on the disk, and completed, why wasn't it included for free? There is the possibility that they are withholding aspects of the game to milk the customer base.

The problem is that so much DLC these days feels like already created content that was removed from the game to gouge the consumer, "on-disc DLC" is just physical proof of that.

You have to remember when you buy a game, you aren't buying the game, you're buying a license to use the game. The disc is yours, but the IP on the disc still belongs to the company. You bought a license to the game, not the extra content on the disc.

You aren't paying for it twice. If it were download only, guess what? you'd still have to pay for it. So what does it matter the method of distribution?
