Because it wasn't ever meant to be part of the original product. If they produce more than they have to for a game, why should they be considered "milking" the customers for charging for extra additions? You're argument is like saying "WHAT!? What do you MEAN you have a Deluxe Breakfast platter that includes pancakes in addition to my Standard platter's bacon, egg, and home fries? YOU ALREADY HAVE IT DONE BACK THERE!!!! WHY won't you just give it to me?" It wasn't part of the original product.

EDIT: Or let's look at it like this..... "WTH microsoft? What do you MEAN I have to pay more for Windows Ultimate if I want the extra stuff, when it's already on the disc alongside the Home Premium I paid for!? I am ENTITLED to it because I... wait, no, I didn't buy the rights for it... BUT I WANT IT FREE!"

But it wasn't included for free. It in theory was included with/for the initial 40-60 dollar price. That's far from free.

Next up: Why pirating is easily justified in today's market.

(this post will probably be censored for using the word piracy and having enough letters that can be rearranged into an unprofessional word)

Criminals will use anything they can to justify themselves. If not this (which legitimate customers don't have an issue with by and large), it would be something else. It always is.

But how do you know? Maybe they took some stuff that was supposed to be in the original game, and decided to sell it as an DLC.
Im not saying thats what they did, but I think thats why a lot of gamers think its a bit sketchy to be including DLC on the disk.

Well now, theres the golden phrase.

Maybe it was. Maybe it wasn't. Maybe they chose to take some of it out since they felt their product was strong enough on its own without the full kit and kaboodle included. Maybe you agree, if you're buying the base game knowing there's DLC coming? Maybe you wouldn't be looking to buy a game if you felt it wasn't worth your money as-is? The world is full of maybes.

Well now, theres the golden phrase.

Day 1 DLC (and even moreso on-disc) is typically the result of missing your initial targeted launch window (ie Holiday 2011) and then the guys in marketing deciding that it's best to delay until a new suitable launch window (Spring 2012) despite only needing a much smaller timespan to finish. Because of this extra time prior to launch when the game already went gold, you start with your post-launch DLC projects. Finishing those within the window, you're able to add them to the game disc, saving not insignificant amounts of bandwidth and the associated fees that would have come with it.

Game design starts with a plan of the entire game and that plan gets funded. DLC is almost always the result of ideas that weren't paid for originally.

Consumers don't realize what a massive undertaking AAA games are purely from a development standpoint. Extra content is usually the result of overtime, and paying developers overtime isn't an insignificant cost.

Both of these are reasonable excuses for charging for DLC, however I do feel that a few developer/publisher have charged too much, for too little. And that sets people on edge about DLC

Regardless...I personally wouldn't be paying more for extra taunts and such tongue.gif I suppose its worth it to others out there
