More like you just bought the bluray of a movie with the extended content on it. Just throw another $20 at it to unlock it!

DLC should be something made after, or along side the game that wasn't ready to go when the game was launched then released later, not something 100% functional and just purposely gimped from the game at an attempt to milk you for more money.

Tell me, if I can prove to you that extra resources (ie money) was put in to an additional part of content during development, does it matter if it was produced before or after release?

Exactly my point. It was never meant to be a part of the original product, or if it was, it wouldn't have been made without the extra manpower and money to be created. It doesn't matter when it was developed.

The point you're not getting is that the DLC content development would simply never have been paid for, and that content would never see the light of day. Game developers don't work for free, and additional content means overtime.

So your choices on DLC that gets funded/finished prior to the game finishing:
It never happened.

Or, just to satisfy irrational consumers, the company doesn't put it on the disk, has it as day 1 DLC that costs them for increased bandwidths and negatively impacts consumers with data caps.

Or, if Day 1 DLC is still offensive, the content simply gets delayed so that it's not offensive anymore.

It was never part of the base game in almost every single case we've seen on-disc DLC/Day 1 DLC, including the game that made this a big debate- ME3.

Edit: Let's throw a hypothetical situation for a AAA game upcoming. 343 studios is about to launch Halo 4 on Nov 4. As a nod to their fans, Bungie petitions (successfully) the funding and licensing to do a map pack consisting of every single Halo 2 map reimagined, and the marketing team agrees with their decision to aim for a Dec 25 launch date. Bungie, being seasoned with the engine and map design and having already had years of balance testing on the maps finish a couple months early, just before the game hits the production lines and they get the map pack put on the disk.

This is content developed by a developer 100% independent of the base game's development, and wasn't even scheduled to launch until almost 2 months after launch. Is it still evil to charge for it?

Try this one:

This is content developed by a team 100% independent of the base game's development, and wasn't even scheduled to launch until almost 2 months after launch.

Or how about this:
This is content developed by a team 100% independent of the base game's development, and was scheduled to go live a week after launch.

Lets just settle for this:
This is content developed by a team 100% independent of the base game's development.

You seem to think that im saying that all DLC is bad. Not all DLC is bad, DLC thats on the disk when its launched in a 100% complete form is bad.
Lets use your example and say that 343 launches Halo 4 on Nov 4. Woo hoo, good for them. Now what you said next was the maps were planned to be released well into Dec.
Now thats completely understandable...well after a month since the game has been released.

Now if those maps were ON THE DISK THE DAY THE GAME WAS launched, this is complete BS, especially since they plan to charge 10-15 for it just to send you a small packet of data which unlocks data you already paid for. If it was a free DLC, then thats slightly understandable and not so much a big deal.

Doing the "bandwidth" argument makes sense if you don't care at all that your paying for content you should already have access to, and not having to download the content which could potentially suck from your data cap. I guess you could consider that a silver lining to get bent over by these game companies.

In the end tho i guess were just not going to agree since we are seeing this obviously from diffrent point of views...which is fine, there is no absolute right or wrong answer. its just that every time i download a 2kb file to unlock content thats already been on the disk i have in my xbox....cant help but roll my eyes...could of just been with the same game and not taken off purposely for monetary gain.

At the same time tho...cant blame the companies one bit, us sheeple still buy the crap.../sigh

It's not getting bent over. It's getting more by paying more. When the funding for the DLC came through, the price was determined before the coders even got started and was the only reason the funding was there at all.

Complaining about on-disk dlc is only going to hurt people with data caps, because it's not going to be rolled into the base game without the price being rolled into the base game price as well.
