[The Verge] Apple gets yet another, broader slide-to-unlock patent - Page 3

Waste of money. But what more do you expect from the bullies of planet Earth.

I can't think of anything broader then this. In a month, Apple will reveal they issued a patent for an electronic device that makes and recieves calls.

Hey, if I was a 100 billion dollar tech company, I'd be doing the exact same thing; the legal fees are just a drop in the bucket.

It's the US patent system and massively ignorant oversight of tech patents that's to blame, not the corporations. Blaming Apple is like blaming a taxpayer for taking advantage of well known loopholes in the bloated tax code.

they should just have disabled the unlocking completely, just press the power button to turn on the display and unlock at the same time.

Isn't this whole thing kind of a moot point since you have to enter a password first? You guys do put a password on your phone, right? Right?

Google needs to patent passwords so we can be sure that anyone with an iPhone can be completely taken advantage of...
Nevermind, I guess that would be a little redundant.

But Apple haven't used the 'slide something somewhere' to unlock style, but Android already has.. how can that get patented?
would I be able to tell the US Patent system I found a recipe for a coca-cola based drink from 1700's in my family records, and then patent Coke?

apple has used slide to unlock since the inception of their first touchscreen phone / ipod touch.

This patent isn't for Slide to Unlock, it's for move something somewhere to unlock.

The patent covers the fact that the 'unlock image' doesn't have to move on a predefined path (think Samsung Galaxy S1/2/3's unlocker) where you just move the picture off the screen.

Yep it's the patent system that's to blame, not people who gleefully abuse it.

By that same theory lets blame guns for crime, and not the people who abuse them!

But apple has nothing that moves an image to unlock, how stupid for the patent office to blindly grant patents that has been in existent and anti competitive. Why dont google just patent having half eaten rotten apples on the back of devices?
