What program would allow me to edit/rename 1000's of files all at once ?

Thread Starter
I got alot files that I would like to rename with the same name but would like to do just once. A few years ago I used a program like this, to do just what I'm talking about but I can't remember what it's called. I would google it but not sure how to word it.
