What's the cheapest laptop I can get with these specs?

I'm looking for a new laptop that has at minimum

6gb ram
mid-range to good graphics card
HD resolution ( can be overlooked if a good deal )
500gb hard drive
Quad core processor

I would prefer it to be 15", but this too is negotiable. I will mainly be using it for my college courses, programming work, multimedia and video editing. Maybe some light gaming. Awesome battery life and light weight would be a plus too, but again, not a huge deal.

What's the best bang for my buck? Thanks for any help.

Really the only things you should be concerned with when it comes to buying a laptop/notebook are:
- Screen size and resolution
- Processor
- Graphics card

Anything else such as ram, hard drives, wifi, and bluetooth can be easily upgraded/added later on with minimal intrusion and without voiding a warranty.

If you're getting it for college I would personally just get a netbook and forget about gaming only for the sake of having 10+ hours of battery life. If you're not worried about dealing with finding an outlet then I would recommend searching for any brand that offers a 15" 1080p screen or better.

ASUS or HP are two brands that offer laptops with 1080p screens for as little as $600-ish, and if you want gaming then maybe check out an AMD APU, otherwise you're really looking at $1000+


Fair warning, HP has been considered to have poor quality but if you feel comfortable taking apart a laptop you won't have any trouble.

The Lenovo Y580 is a solid buy if you can spare around $850. If not, then the Y480 is the other option. smile.gif

Both are awesome for the money you pay. biggrin.gif
