Asus Ares - Adding a third 8 pin connector

I've been playing with a pair of Asus Ares cards lately and it looks to be very simple to exchange the 6 pin connector for an 8 pin connector, due to how the pcb is setup.

As seen in my pic here:

The slots are there and it's all ready to go, just needs to be done. I've never done anything like this and I'm sure it's mostly for LN2/Dice runs compared to normal every day use but for the sake of having a little bit extra power and having a flush 24pin setup, I'm quite interested in changing it out.

My question, would there be any reason that I should not do this? Has anyone done this or seen it done? I did a few quick Google searches and didn't find much.

Go for it I say. Probably very hard to damage the card by doing this.

According to this, the pinout of the 6 pin connector is contained within the pinout of the 8 pin connector, presuming the leads for the Sense1, extra power, and extra ground line are connected, there should be no problem and the GPU should be able to draw the additional juice. I would wait until someone more experienced on the issue responds before attempting though, I am just verifying a pin-to-pin compatibility between the 5 used pins on a 6 pin connector and the 8 pin connector. If the leads are NOT connected on the PCB you will see ZERO GAIN from this, and attempting it may cause damage to the card.

I would see what the last 2 pins on both your 8 pin connectors supply if there both the same then that one probably would be.
You could always use a wire from one the 8 pins to the empty pads.

My thought though is that if the card needed it then it would been there but then y is the pcb set up for it

I don't think there was around the time when this card launched. Nowadays there are, the Asus Mars II has 3 8 pins, as does the PowerColor 7990. Might be others but those are the only two off the top of my head.
