this is obscene, and im not even in the EU. how on earth could anyone think this is a good idea?

i know lawmakers aren't the most forward-thinking people in the world, but even this is a bit much. a change like this has the potential to cripple an entire industry.

Meh... they'll make weak ass EU edition cards that are downclocked to crap. I dont think this will effect the majority of us/the world.

EU at it again with it's insane amount of laws and legislation... being a part of it is more of a burden than a blessing at this point.

Sure i get that we are trying to become more energy conservative.... but this is far from the way to go. Not only is the way they measure performance stupid ( Memory bandwidth, wth? ). But it also seems stupid how they didn't bother to talk with the 2 giants in the industry BEFORE doing something like this, boggles my mind.


And if people can't get 1 seriously powerful GPU, they will just get 2 smaller ones, which means more materials used which you could argue is just as bad as using a few extra watts of power since that could just come from wind energy.

Not gonna happen, well if it does I'll be pitchforking enviromentalist, not for the GPU ban, ju' cause it's the right thing to do.

Anyway, this would cripple too many companies, as well hinder future procurment of supercomputers. tput: Making the EU a bastion of taliban technology and reactionary minds.

Quite interesting read, the PDF that is.
Seems like it's another halfwitted scheme poised to eliminate marginal waste of energy. Although most of it isn't as stupid as the battery powered ir recievers idea that circulated a few years ago... 8

Besides theymention something about making 80+ Standard within the EU. Which brings me to the point that 500 million consumers even if they suffer under the greepeace whip make a difference, rather than dualdevelopment of two separate technologies (multiclassing). Companies tend to obey the harshest law, withn reasonable limits, just look at the californian emission limits and cars.

The article brings out one thing mong many but i agee with the general notion here that the GPU part is bullcrap, t would essentially mean that Europe and probably the rest of the word would have to skip a few gens in order to see performance increases. Te rest of it, well i live in a cold country, as stated above. I rather heat my shack doing something fun rather than just watching them electrons squeeze through copper.

What a waste of time this is.

Graphics card power consumption may have gone up but everything else has gone down, CPU, Memory and all other stuff is more efficient.

Edit: I Remember a Pentium 4 been 110W and a pentium D 840 @ 130w
