I doubt it will be impossible for the end user to change the voltages/clocks back. EU users will just have to find a non-EU VBIOS or change voltage/clocks in some available software.

1) Because companies HATE designing things for different markets, it drives costs up. I'm not saying they won't do it, but it isn't the best thing for anyone ... inside the EU our outside.

2) Given what nVidia has recently been doing, I doubt they will be all that open to allowing much voltage OC'ing anywhere, much less inside the EU.

I doubt this will actually affect the enthusiast market.

In the unlikely event that it would though, I look forward to importing GPUs tongue.gif

EU will get gimped versions then and cripple local economy as everyone will just import the proper ones from the states or do bios mods.

i guess it would be like cars in certain country gets gimped and it takes a ECU flash to transform them

What they can do is underclock the energy and once at home a one click function that lets you enjoy full power.

At the same time it will void warranty so if anything happens they can wash their hands.

Win / Win situation for the industry.

Just because I want to have a little fun with this ...

I think this proves once and for all that the European Union are no better than Adolf Hitler in the 1930s and 40s. They both are trying to impose their will of what a "perfect society" is. They both are effectively murdering millions of people as well. While Hitler did it one way, the EU is doing it by limiting computer power.

Now, I'm sure some of you are saying to yourself "How on Earth can you even remotely compare what Hitler did to millions of people to what the EU is doing?" Simple. By limiting the performance of graphics cards, they will in effect be gimping Folding@Home, which we all know is a way to find cures for horrible diseases that millions of people are afflicted with and die from every year.

The EU's actions will prolong these horrible diseases and cause millions of people needless pain and suffering. In my eyes, they are no better than some two-bit dictator.

Heck, I wouldn't doubt it if the EU was taking billions of dollars from greedy drug companies who stand to lose billions or trillions of Euros if real cures were found. We all know that the cost of treating a disease, as opposed to curing it, makes companies a LOT more money.

Besides, limiting graphics power for gamers who may play a couple hours a day doesn't make sense. Even a machine that draws twice as much wattage for 4 hours a day playing "Skyrim" consumes less power than a video card that is Folding 24/7 and draws half as much power.

It is obvious that the European Union is corrupt, wants to line their own pockets, doesn't care about the millions of people that it is hurting or murdering by their actions, or enslaving and micro managing the lives of the millions under their tyrannical boot.

End of semi-sarcastic post.

While I'm all for energy conservation, the amount of total power "saved" from this would be minuscule considering the extremely low percentage of people with high end graphics cards. This makes me think people that sit around the UN have far too much time on their hands.

What i see though is another tax placed on high end GPU's because is not enough that in UK prices of high end computer and electronics parts are £=$ and US prices translate 1:1
They definitely need another excuse to jack up the prices so we pay even more , and don't forget the energy prices going up 8/9% this year , great time to be living in EU rolleyes.gif
I for one will be buying my hardware in US like I'm already doing past 4 years.
