Choosing A Video Card (6770 or 7770)

Thread Starter
Hi,
Considering a system with an A6 amd cpu and 8GB of some generic ddr3 ram, what would the better performing card be from the following:
1) 7770 ~168$
2) 7750 ~132$
3) wildcard1:6770 1 GB (~152$)
4) wildcard2: GTX 650 1 GB or 2 GB at ~ 150$/175$
These are about the lowest prices available to me.
I'm currently using a 19" 1440x900 display and won't switch before getting another card. Also, is there a possibility of running games in above average settings with a cheaper card?
Power consumption not an issue.
The benchmarks found on the internet have high-end system specs, trying not to limit the video cards, so that's why I'm giving the details above.

Power consumption not an issue... I'd be more tempted to save the money and get a 5850

Sorry that wasn't your question... I think the 7770 and 6770 are roughly the same speed... the 6770 is quicker in some stuff by a small margin, the 7770 quicker in most stuff by a similar small margin. I would get the GTX 650 Ti if that's the options.

There's also the option to get a second-hand gtx285 / 5830 / 4870 / 4870x2 (top price ~150$ for the 4870x2)

Although not exactly new, last gen cards are always more expensive in my country (Romania, EU).

in this case i would go with the 4870X2. though it isnt going to be the coolest, quietest, or most power efficient, but it will have the best performance in non direct x 11 games. (most games have a choice to put them on DX9 DX10 or DX11 anyway)

OP which country are you from. the HD 7770 is very costly in your region. 6770 is no match for 7770 . also the DX11 tesselation performance and compute performance is much better on HD 7770 compared to HD 6770.

Please take into account the 1440x900 resolution (I was guessing the 4870x2 is overkill for my screen)

Just go for thr 7770 if you can. Its a better overall card. Low on power, fast, you can overclock it abit and its quiet.

Alright,
I'm left to choose from either a 7770 or a 7750 for a 1440x900 screen. I'll probably get the 7770, since the price difference is only ~30$ between them (the 7750 here is the same price as a 7770 in the US).

i dont understand why are you going with an amd a6 apu if you want a hd7xxx series graphics card ? if you want to stick with a6 then you must get a hd6670 gddr5 and use it in dual graphics option with your apu. if you want 7770 then dont get a6 go for intel i3 or amd fx based cpu's .. thumb.gif
