[Solved] Ubuntu 10.10 on VMPlayer 3 not utilizing 100% CPU (Even with -smp 8 and -advmethods flags)

Thread Starter
Hi everyone, I've noticed a few problems regarding my folding client on Ubuntu.

First of all: I followed both Wondermutt's and Digigami's Guides side by side to setup the vmplayer, the client and startup shortcuts. When it came to configure the client I messed up, so I PMed Wondermutt and he helped me set it up correctly.

Another problem is that My Stanford Stats Page shows that I'm running 4-5 Clients and I'm sure it's only 1.

My PPD has dropped to 12k (50%) since this problem, so please HELP

I am not sure about coretemp, but if you open a terminal in Ubuntu and type "top", then while it is running press "1", it will show you a per core break down of the cpu usage. That way you can tell if Ubuntu is recognizing all the CPU's and how much load is going on each one.

I know his VM is set to utilize all 8 cores, he and I looked at that before he posted this thread.

I've looked over and talked to him about his setup, everything seems right, but I've never tried running the setup on a 3770k. I've done it on a 3570k and it worked fine, but never on a 3770k.

This !

I actually sent Wondermutt both the VM and F@H config files so that he could deeply address the problem. I reinstalled from scratch 4 times and still got the same result.

That happens from time to time. Usually in order to fix it you have to completely power off the host machine and power it back on (no reboot, actually shutting it down). The BIOS saves the change to that setting (VT) and won't release it until it gets powered off.

In order to get the output from "top", open a terminal and start folding. Then a minute or two into the folding open another terminal and type "top", then take a screenshot of the window.
