Thanks for the info, but doesn't that conflict with start8? Also, doesn't start 8 let you boot right into the desktop as well? I only ask because I check out both and I am leaning more towards start8 if I were to get Windows 8.

That issue aside, has anyone found a way to get aero back in? (aside from that weird customization setting/bug that gets a glass-like effect)

Try Metro first, you might be surprised. If you absolutely cannot get used to it for whatever reason, then look into third party programs.

To get started, the shutdown menu is in the charms bar, which you bring up by moving the mouse to the top or bottom right corner, then click settings. Then you can select power, which then allows your shutdown/restart options.

Control panel, programs, and more system functions is easily accessed by right-clicking the bottom left corner.

Right clicking on an empty spot on the start screen will allow you to access the all apps menu, which will display all the programs installed. Right clicking on tiles on the start screen allows you to customize them, and left click + hold allows you to drag tiles around.

As for Aero... I'm pretty sure that requires a significant bit of coding to make it work, and might require some core changes to the OS that might not be allowed. So as of now, there is no actual way to enable Aero as it is implemented in Windows 7.

I tried Windows 8 once a while back and I can't stand metro unfortunately. I personally feel it's a step backwards and it should be kept to a phone or tablet, but if you enjoy it that's cool. I just wish they didn't really force it on those that want more of the traditional layout by removing the start menu and integrating metro like that. IMO, it would have been nice if the desktop was more of a separate experience from metro, but this is a heated topic heh, so I'll just agree to disagree smile.gif.

I was originally talking about thirdparty programs in my post, so if anyone knows how to get aero back in and some more start menu details let me know.

Yeah, please don't assume they guy hasn't tried Windows 8. We went over this in the other threads.

And start8 and Classicshell can actually work together. I'm not sure but the last time I tried Start8 it didn't work properly, whereas ClassicShell worked entirely well, replaced Metro, gave an aero-like taskbar and emulated the Start Menu almost entirely.

The Window7 license is void if you go for the $40.00 deal. You can't put Win7 on a different PC, if you take the deal.

If there's a new person in the thread, I'm going to assume they haven't used Windows 8 until they said they did. Based on the Windows 8 forum poll, only 25% of respondents have used Windows 8, and that's on a Windows 8 dedicated forum. Therefore, I have a much higher chance of getting it right if I assume they haven't used it.

Why would people who don't like Windows 8 and have tried it join a Windows 8 forum? Those things are run by people like Warmonger who live and breath Windows 8. Their poll isn't very reliable. Maybe try somewhere like Ars, Engadget or something. One of their polls (not being a specific site and having a huge audience) I'd put more weight into.
