As per the University agreement with Microsoft, any software we get through this program, we can keep permanently. After graduation, we can't continue getting additional software though. thumb.gif

After you confirmed your student e-mail, did you have to create a username? When I go to the store, it asks for a username. I haven't a clue where to get one, lol.

If you buy the $40 upgrade, do you actually have to "upgrade" or can you do a fresh installation?

With Start8 out, I'm really not seeing any reason to not upgrade. There's a pretty wide consensus that the OS is generally snappier and and many of the UI elements are improved (ie. task manager, etc.).

Aero or not buying it out of some self-righteous principle are the only things that come to mind.

You have the option to format and do a clean install of 8 while installing.

There's a link in the support page that says "request account" or something along those lines, just click that link and email the supervisor with all your info: name, school, etc, etc...

3. Have you tried gaming and were there any issues?

Took me 3-5 minutes with a USB 3.0 drive and SSD. thumb.gif

I chose to format, so I don't know.

I switched back to Windows 7 because I was having some annoying NVIDIA issues where my driver would crash. Ended up still getting crashes on Windows 7, so it likely wasn't Windows 8's fault.

If you don't want to wait for the confirmation (can be a few days) and you are a MSDN or Technet subscriber, you can download the Retail ISO (en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440.iso), and install it without a product key. Then, after you get your confirmation and receive a key, simply enter it into Windows. Prior to entering the key, you will receive a notification to activate Windows every now and again when Windows starts up -- just deal with it until you've got a key.

Note that in order to install it without a product key, you need to create a file called ei.cfg and place it in the "sources" folder of the ISO. The contents of the file should be:
Code:
[EditionID]

[Channel]
Retail

[VL]
0

If you are not a MSDN or Technet subscriber, I don't believe there is any legal way to get the ISO, unfortunately.

I actually have the Enterprise version installed on a partition, so I'm in no rush.

Thanks though!
