DayZ mod completely killed gaming for me altogether for about 8 months or so....

Every here and there I will play BC2, started up Assassins Creed : Revelations...but ultimately I just watch a ton of anime.

To fill my time now i tend to hit the F5 key on ocn a lot or practice piano/Japanese

Ran into the same issue about 8 months back. It happens, I think it is just a natural thing when you are into any type of hobby. You just get tired of it even if you've done it since you were a kid. That's the time where you back away from the PC and just take a break. You have a newborn which for a long time you won't get any sleep or really be able to go back to the old days. When you get a break from the crying, diaper changing, constant worry and stress I would say just kick back and watch some TV. The love for it will come back, it always does.

I have probably taken 34423492 breaks since I first played Mario back in 89. It happens, especially with our hobby.

My guess(es) are:
You should probably be getting as much sleep as you can over the next year+. I don't have kids but i've never heard anyone with babies say oh that 8 hours was just too much sleep.
Raising a healthy intelligent child will probably give you more fulfillment than pwning newbs ever will. And society will be better for it.

That happnes to me to and that's mostly part of being a parent

... First when I started dating my wife I quit gaming for like a year and then after I married I got the urge to start again. However, since I didn't have that much time to play I stopped again. Lately I've been trying to game again, but since I've got quite a few games that I got cheap on steam I stare at which one to play and see if I finish it. I never end up deciding so I just play SC2 and play some Zealot Frenzy games

I recently got the 2 batman games and after the long cinematic start I just played like 15mins and quit. I think its mostly because I get the feeling that there is more important things to do in the house and help yoru wife than sit to play games like D3 where you need to grind a lot.

I think personally it's just a natural progression my friend. I am also a young father at the age of 22 and my path in life and my career are far more important to me than gaming now. I find games barely entertain me anymore like they used too. I am more concerned with my child and my girlfriend and life in general than gaming. However for unwinding nothing beats being able to jump on the computer and play a few games of SC2 or CSGO. I think it's just part of growing up.. I find my imagination and my interest in gaming dwindling whereas my analytic and deductive reasoning seems to be improving and my interest in other aspects of life has increased tenfold. Right now I am more concerned with working out and bettering my education then I am with gaming.

Everyone is different though. Don't worry about it bro, I just think it's because you have more responsibility now and you have a lot more of real issues in your life to deal with and your subconscious mind is prioritizing these things over the playful things your mind enjoys, IE gaming.

I understand completely where you are coming from. I feel the exact same way as a father.

lol this thread makes me feel better about not playing my massive steam library. Then again, I gamed enough as a teenager to probably last me through my 20's.

I have off seasons when it comes to gaming, then a new mmo comes out or something and I go crazy on it for a few months. I binged swtor earlier this year, jan-march.

Yeah my early-mid teens were pretty much, come home from school and game! I am more focused on living my life at the moment

I think it is just part of becoming an adult. You don't have as much free time and you have more REAL tangible issues to deal with, like paying rent/mortgage/utilities and maintaining your family lol. Don't worry, once you get established and have more free time you might find yourself gaming more, or doing another hobby that is intellectually stimulating and or fulfilling.

As a father of a young child myself, as soon as your kid starts crawling you'll have almost no time for much of anything for awhile anyway. Take this boredom period to learn some photo/video editing software, as a parent you'll be so glad you did.

I've felt that way before, but I just get my favorite PS1 game, and is still one of the hardest games I've ever played, and so fun and challenging (Toy Story Racer BTW) that I don't mind the graphics.

I get bored of it at times but it is a good thing, i find new genrs i love when that happens. I never would have played civ 4 if shooters and mmos hadnt begun to bore me a few years back. And if cs go and left for dead 2 had not gotten old to me i would never have found my new favorite game SMITE.
